Logging of Outdoor Walk in Watch

While in low power mode, my watch had gaps while recording the data. At several points during the activity, it showed no data resulting in recording less distance than actually covered on ground. This is odd for a device that is running on the latest OS

That's what Low Power Mode does; among other things it turns off Wi-Fi and cellular connections and incoming phone calls and notifications and reduces background app refressh to save battery power.

Good Day!

Yesterday, I had started an outdoor walk workout with an open goal. The watch, as always, was in low power mode. In between, I decided to jog intermittently which is probably why it didn’t record the data correctly.

Today, same settings, but while in outdoor walk mode, I restricted myself to walking which the watch recorded more or less accurately (~10m).

Following that, I set it on outdoor run with a specific distance goal. During this workout, I walked several times in between deliberately to check whether data logging was accurate. I was happy to note that this time around, it worked like clockwork.

Lesson learnt- if you set the watch for a walk, then walk and don’t run. Apple probably has written the workout program as such.

Stay healthy and stay fit.

Thanks for the update.

One quick suggestion: you might want to consider a third-party walking/running app. Those may be more accurate and flexible, and definitely can offer more features. I use Walkmeter and have have found it well worth the money. I don't use my Watch in low-power mode, though, so you'd want to talk with the developer of any such app before deciding to purchase.

Maybe. Apple may have determined that things needed to be more restricted in Low Power Mode than previously. But I don't know since I don't use Low Power Mode, having never had my Watch run out of power on any of my walks, so I have nothing with which to compare your experience. Is your Watch a celluar model, or is it Wi-Fi only? If it's Wi-Fi only, do you also carry an iPhone? I'm just trying to identify what else might be involved that might have caused things to change.

Regards.
