How to sort a list of text in Notes?

Apple seems to take a dim view of putting things in sorted order. In Notes, you have an option in the overall app settings to automatically sort checklists, but you can't just decide to sort a list of text items.

Even Pages is 'sort challenged.' It will let you sort a table, but you cannot put a simple list of text in alphabetical order.

What am I missing?
