iPhone keyboard lagging after iOS 18 Update

Wow I think the show math results was the main culprit. Hopefully. Because it made a big difference. Although I’ve been missing predictive text the last couple weeks I just turned it back on and there definitely is a bit of a lag but not as bad with math prediction enabled.

I had a similar issue. after some help online, i was suggested to turn the slow keys off in your iOS. Settings>Accessibility>Keyboard>Slow Keys --> Turn OFF. Restart iPhone Mirroring app. This helped me.

The issue has been resolved on iOS 18.1.

The auto correct has been so bad for so long…turning it off actually makes the swipe to type experience so much better. I typed this without having to fix a single thing…typically I’m fixing multiple words per sentence…

let people decide what works for them. lag/frozen apps is a pretty unbearable experience.

Reset keyboard dictionary in Settings, General, Reset, Reset Keyboard worked for me.

i was able to finally replicate this. it has to do with some emojis in predictive i think, which is odd because even with predictive off it does it. but for example i typed bee, and hit space, typing as fast as i always do. there is a clear distinct lag when you hit space and that's what's making typing choppy. it has to be something with the emojis. i've reset keyboard dictionary, i've turned predictive on and off, and i was able to replicate this on both my 15 pro max and 16 pro max! just type bee and keep typing fast anything after that, and you might notice the lag. its not every emoji though which is odd!!!! but bee was one of them lol btw i'm on 18.0.1 and it still does it. "phones" just did it as well, as it was populating all the phone emojis. but then i turned predictive off, did both, and it still lagged. so confusing, but i think it has to do with that.

i just deleted the emoji keyboard and the word bee still triggers the lag. so i don't know what's going on.

Turn off all the artificial intelligence predictive text and all the other garbage. I have an iPhone 14. I guess these phones are not powerful enough. The fact that AI is not smart enough to even properly capitalize My sentences is staggering so another reason to turn it off is it's absolutely terrible.

Iphone 15 pro max LMAO keyboard lagging as **** after iOS 18 update on this incredible powerful A17 Pro. I didn't even want to make the update from iOS 17, if the apple watch didn't require it. So now I have to use ancient Google keyboard which works 10x faster in compare.

And it's not even beta or 18.0, it's 18.4 🫠🫠🫠

I disabled keyboard haptic years ago and regardless still have some lag going on. The only thing that sorta helped was disabling predictive text but that also disabled my emojis too

I did reach out yesterday to apple support and they told me they do have this issue with and they are working to resolve the issue with a new update. Is really frustrating. I hope this gets fix soon.

I turned off every non-critical option under Settings -> App -> Texting and performance improved markedly (e.g. share feedback with Apple, which is ironic). Did a hard reboot also fyi.

It stared for me when I had my iPhone 11 Pro on iOS 17. I thought that it was something wrong with the phone but then I upgraded to 15 pro max and guess what it still happens. They released an update to patch that specifically and it did absolutely nothing.

I'm now on iOS 18.0.1 and guess again- the lag is still here. It only occurs if you have bilingual keyboard, otherwise seems fine. What's strange though is that I also have a 14 pro max for work with another Apple ID and on that phone nothing ever happened

I’ve had 18.1 since it came out and it’s been a horrible sloppy mess. I use notes for everything I do and it’s crazy how slow the typing experience has been. It’s just as slow on my iPad mini 5 and that’s a significantly slower than my iPhone 12. I was convinced I’m gonna have to get a newer phone but seeing everyone with newer phones having the same problem this is CLEARLY apples fault. I should have stayed on iOS 17 🤦

The issue persists even with iOS 18.1.1. I’ve just written a post in the community about it, as I’m becoming increasingly frustrated. None of the updates so far have resolved the problem.

Perhaps you could help bring more attention to this by sharing it widely with friends and acquaintances who might also spread the word.

It’s genuinely frustrating to be left alone with such issues on devices as expensive as these. One would expect the basics to work flawlessly and for fixes to be released promptly.

I, along with many others, am not the only one experiencing this. This problem affects a significant number of people, all reporting the same issue. I truly hope for widespread reach so that Apple employees or those with closer connections can finally address this and provide us with a solution!
