iPhone keyboard lagging after iOS 18 Update

Hello guys, I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max and I've been suffering for the famous keyboard lag since I've updated to iOS 17 one year ago. In my case the problem starts to occur when I enable 2 languages on my keyboard (for me, Italian and English). I hoped that with the iOS 18 update and the introduction of the bilingual keyboard this bug would finally be fixed but sadly, that was not the case. I've tried every possible troubleshooting known for this issue, yesterday I've even reset my iPhone, but again, without success. Is someone experiencing the same issue even in iOS 18? And have you managed to fix this? Thank you.

FYI for me it’s auto correct. When it’s disabled in settings, along with predictive, the lag is gone. So clearly Apple screwed up auto correct and predictive as usual and now typing is a nightmare on these phones. Time to switch back to Android.

The issue persists even with iOS 18.1.1. I’ve just written a post in the community about it, as I’m becoming increasingly frustrated. None of the updates so far have resolved the problem.

Here’s my post: Keyboard Lag on iPhone (iOS 17/18) - Apple Community

Perhaps you could help bring more attention to this by sharing it widely with friends and acquaintances who might also spread the word.

It’s genuinely frustrating to be left alone with such issues on devices as expensive as these. One would expect the basics to work flawlessly and for fixes to be released promptly.

I, along with many others, am not the only one experiencing this. This problem affects a significant number of people, all reporting the same issue. I truly hope for widespread reach so that Apple employees or those with closer connections can finally address this and provide us with a solution!

One of the reasons I have upgraded to 16 Pro Max was because my 13 Pro Max became slow (specially the keyboard) after IOS 17 upgrade. But surprise! Still laggy keyboard on a 1.5k€ brand new phone.

IOS 16 was perfect keyboard-wise, I am glad I left my iPad Pro to that version.

Anyway, to me none of the suggested tips works. Furthermore, with every phone upgrade, I never restore the backup from the previous phone. Thus there is nothing to reset anyway.

Its really bizarre this many people are having rhis problem and apple has done nothing about it for years.

It doesn’t matter what app I’m using or how many times I have disabled haptic feedback, deleted the keyboard, shut off predictive text etc. Nothing works.

When you start typing it’s like starting a countdown. The more characters you type the worst it gets. For example right now it’s starting to slow down to the point that is almost unusable.

The only way I fix it is by copying the text, force quitting the app and then re-opening it. That restarts the “countdown” and gets me a few more answers until I repeat the process.

The only thing that I have not tried is getting a new battery. I know that sounds ridiculous but I have tried everything else and when I look up the condition of my battery it IS degraded……

I have ordered a new battery and I’m waiting for it to get here. In the meantime if you are reading this, open up your settings and click on the battery health. If your battery is degraded significantly and your keyboard is lagging can you let me know? Thanks!

Hello guys, I'm gonna share with you a little tip that might help you with this issue. If you go into Settings -> General -> Dictionary you will see the list of dictionaries enabled on your iPhone, in my case, 5 dictionaries were selected: Italian/English, 2 different English dictionaries, an Italian one and Apple Dictionary. I tried disabling the Italian/English one and one of the 2 English ones and the lag seems better on my device (not 100% gone but much better than before). I don't know if this will work also on your devices but you might give it a try, it doesn't seem to affect the keyboard prediction accuracy. I'll attach a screenshot of the settings page I'm talking about.

No it hasn’t been fixed, at least for me. I can’t even believe this is a real thing. A thousand dollar phone and you can’t even type?

This is the fourth time that I have had an apple phone that was old and then one day I do an update and it never works the same again.

I think they do it on purpose in order to force people to buy new phones. Look at the incentive…. If they made a product that lasted forever they would make 1/10 of the profit.

if your phone just all of a sudden stops working, what are you gonna do most people get frustrated and just buy another one.

I was 100% convinced of this theory until I read people having the problem but newer phones so I don’t know what is going on but it’s nonsense when you spend this much money for a product
