iPhone keyboard lagging after iOS 18 Update

Hello guys, I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max and I've been suffering for the famous keyboard lag since I've updated to iOS 17 one year ago. In my case the problem starts to occur when I enable 2 languages on my keyboard (for me, Italian and English). I hoped that with the iOS 18 update and the introduction of the bilingual keyboard this bug would finally be fixed but sadly, that was not the case. I've tried every possible troubleshooting known for this issue, yesterday I've even reset my iPhone, but again, without success. Is someone experiencing the same issue even in iOS 18? And have you managed to fix this? Thank you.

I have been testing it the entire day before updating with my experience. I think there has been a slight improvement, but from time to time with some apps the keyboard is still very laggy and some keys don’t respond. In my case when the keyboard is laggy the backspace is not working well, like I am not pressing the button hitting the action center.

Actually, while I am writing this comment, the keyboard started being laggy again, confirming what I thought already, basically even when the text becomes longer the keyboard starts being slow.

As soon as I upgraded to iOS 18 my phone is horrible and if I type more than two sentences it freezes. I have a 12 pro max and I’ve tried resetting the dictionary and shutting off all of the keyboard settings. The only thing I haven’t tried is replacing the battery which I have heard can cause problems but when I read that everyone is having issues with a brand new phone it looks like I’m screwed

I am coming from iPhone 13 Pro Max, as in your case the issue started as I have upgraded to IOS 17. Then, I have recently upgraded to iPhone 16 Pro Max, but same laggy keyboard.

Again, as in your case, I have another phone to compare with, in my case my wife’s phone, which is the same phone you own (15 Pro Max), but in her case the keyboard is perfect.

The keyboard settings are exactly the same on our two phones. I am wondering if any background app which I have is causing this slowness, don’t know if it is possible, but apps are the only difference between our phones (model apart).

I have noticed that keyboard looks good after rebooting the phone. Then I have seen that keyboard could lag on one app and not on another (same time, like passing from iMessage to Whatsapp), plus, longer is the message, higher is the lagging.

maybe some memory leaks occur, who knows.

BTW 18.1.1 didn’t fix the problem.

This kind of issues are honestly embarrassing for a company like Apple.

Unfortunately, i don't think it will help. I wrote a few weeks ago that for me it started with iOS 17 on my olf iPhone 11 Pro.

I got that phone new when it launched, and it still has 91% battery health. The keyboard lag was so bad that it made me buy 15 pro Max, but the problem is still here.

The only thing that helped me was to delete one of the languages on the keyboard, so now i only use my main language. Also try to delete the dictionaries that you don't use. It will be annoying to type in another language (apart from your main one), but i managed to get rid of the lag.

So don't make to many expectations regarding the battery change🙁
