App icons not showing

so recently my app icons have been showing up as white little boxes, kinda like when you create a new focus and you’re gonna select the apps you want notifications from, and if there is a deleted app it’ll show as those white boxes, but the thing is when you click onto the folder the icons show

I don’t know if it’s just me who has this problem, or if anyone else HAD this problem and figured out how to fix. If you do have the same issue/had the same issue please help out! 😭

Apple is notorious for these poor quality control factors these days.

You can quickly refresh your screen’s icons by holding down an app to enter the edit mode(edit Home Screen).

Press the edit button in the top left corner and then press customize. Change/ Toggle your icons from small and large. This will force refresh the icons.

Whoever wrote the code is missing some key refresh options and it shows. It would be nice if instead of Siri suggestions, we could have a quick system refresh since the devs are not taking the time to write code to detect such scenarios. Too much to ask for I guess.

Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

The white app icon grid boxes are usually a corrupted icon cache.

One of the more common paths that include that icon and that corruption is running out of free device storage.

That cache might rebuild, and it might be resolved with a forced restart (see the reply by Axel Foley), but the most reliable way to recover from that corruption is to perform a backup and restore.

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings using a computer - Apple Support (with links to backup, restore)
