Optimized battery charging in my case, yay or nay?

Ever since optimized battery charging was available none of my phones would ever do it. I don't know if it's because I'm not like a power user and really only need to charge my phone every three days or so, or if it's for another reason. I'm pretty sure I have all the settings right.

So, that said, with my new iPhone 16 Pro would it be better if I opt for the "charge to a certain percentage" instead of optimized? Thanks.

You have to plug the power supply into the phone every night and leave it connected all night for a week or two in order for Optimized Battery Charging to learn your routine.

It is impossible to overcharge the battery in the phone, so you don't need to worry about that.

With the iPhone 16 Pro, if you set it up with an 80% limit, it will still take some time for the phone to learn your routine. Keep in mind that the 80% option is more of a gimmick than anything else, since the phone is still going to charge to 100% "occasionally" whatever that might mean. For me, "occasionally" was about every 7-10 days when I've tried this in the past with an iPhone 15.

And, with an 80% limit, you start most days with the phone at 80%. I strongly prefer to have my phone start each day at 100%, so I can get an extra few hours from the battery during the day.

It all depends on your preference if you want to use the Optimized Charging Feature or the Charge Limit. If you want a full days charge, use the Optimized Charging Feature. If you want to preserve your iPhone battery health longer, use the Charge Limit. Whatever you choose is fine, now the worst thing you can do to a rechargeable lithium battery is to let it run out of battery or get below 20%.
