Why is my MacBook Pro M2 (2022) touchbar doing this?

The touchbar on my MacBook Pro M2 (2022) Has stopped changing volume and/or brightness of keyboard and display.

When I make a selection on the touch bar and then try to adjust the level, the level is NOT changed. Instead the Touch Bar is shown on the display of the MacBook Pro and a cursor moves side to side but does not make any changes?

Please see attached video for a better explanation. I have called Apple Support and they suggested I upgrade to 14.7, which I did. No resolution.

Apple then suggest I reinstall macOS, which I did and the issue is still there.

How do I get the touch bar to work like it used to?

Apple Support was no help so I finally sat down and started to go through possible options for this issue, as it has always seemed like an Accessibility issue to me.

After a few hours of reading I discovered the Accessibiility option to Zoom the Touchbar, for those with not so great eye vision - like myself. I must have chosen that sometime becuase as soon as I turned it off, the Touchbar resumed working as it normally did and not being shown on the MacBooks display, as the vidoe (from original post) shows.

Solution: Open System Settings - Accessibility - Zoom (under Vision section) - turn off TouchBar Zoom.

Touchbar Zoom enables the Touchbar to be enalrged and shown on the MacBook's display which changes how the UC works.

I've never seen anything like that before. Try a DFU firmware Revive....better yet a DFU firmware Restore. The former resets the security enclave chip & system firmware (doubtful it will affect the Touchbar) while the latter also erases the whole internal SSD & pushes a clean OS onto the internal SSD. Test with a clean install under these conditions. If the Touchbar issue still occurs, then you have a hardware issue with the laptop. Once you install any third party apps, or migrate/restore from a backup, then you introduce too many things which could possibly lead you astray.

If a clean install is fine, but the issue recurs once you install apps or migrate/restore from a backup, then you have an issue with third party software or some type of configuration issue or corrupt preference file.

Yes, another recent Mac is needed. And the instructions in that Apple article must be followed precisely (even then it can be difficult to place a Mac into DFU Mode). If you don't have access to another Mac that can run Apple Configurator v2.17, then you will need to have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider to assist you and examine the laptop.

Looks like I need a 2nd mac to do the DFU \Revive or restore? I don't have access to anothe rMac.

When I launch Apple Configurator on my Mac, it is not a device listed. I am not sure how to do what you are asking me to do.
