iPadOS 18 update reloaded most apps as darkened, why? And will they normalize eventually?

When I updated my iPhone 15 and iPad 13 inch/M2 recently, most (not all) apps reloaded as darkened, while some normalized (I.e., colorized). I’m curious if others encountered this and if so, does anyone know how to force the apps to display normally? The colors don’t seem to affect the functionality, but does it signify that the apps still need to synch up with the OS?

They may be in Dark Mode (which not all apps support for their icons). Try this:

  1. Press and hold a space on the Home Screen or an app page to enter "jiggle" edit mode.
  2. Tap Edit in the top-left corner.
  3. Select Customize in the dropdown menu.
  4. If it's see to Dark, choose Light or Automatic in the customization panel. Automatic will lighten or darken the icons depending on whether Light or Dark mode is enabled for your phone.
  5. Tap anywhere outside the customization panel to close it and exit the editing mode.

Hope this helps

Thanks. Tried your suggestion and yes, light mode does change all app icons to light, but auto or dark reverts most (but not all) back to dark. I’m skeptical about the reasoning (I.e., that the apps don’t support dark mode) since this phenomenon did not manifest itself until iOS/ipadOS 18 was downloaded. All apps had no problem with dark mode before. Also, even Apple’s apps/icons are affected. Anyway, appreciate the suggestion and input. I’m going to experiment a bit further and will report back here with any success.
