New iPhone 16 with iOS 18 telling me to update to iOS 18 - Why?

Perhaps since the phone was built and the release build of iOS 18 was preinstalled, Apple updated iOS 18. I’d install the update if I were you.

There is no particular reason to wait to do an update until you're in bed. Point updates generally don't take very long. You can wait if you want, but it's not necessary.

That’s what I would do too. And looking at the message author posted, it was specifically for the iPhone 16 models, so it SHOULD be installed.
