Cellular Data Restrictions

Apple used to intentionally restrict its users from using cellular data to transfer data in their services like iCloud backup, software (iOS, iPad OS, etc) updates, App Store, iCloud Photos, and more. Unlimited cellular data plan are available for users. And it added a button so that those who don’t have stable WiFi connection can access these services via cellular networks. However, my iPad (without SIM card or cellular connection capability) still cannot do the things over a shared personal hotspot from my iPhone. Is there any way to bypass the restrictions?

You can use cellular data for updates (both iOS and app) if you have 5G.

Apple doesn't tread here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

Not that I know of.

HOGWASH! Cellular Carriers told Apple that they would not support large data transfers over cellular data because it would overload their networks; before 5G cellular networks run close to capacity on a normal day, so throwing in gigabyte transfers would cause network outages.

And unlimited data plans don’t make data transfers any faster. iCloud Backup uses several gigabytes. 3G and 4G networks have really tiny upload speeds. Thus, over a 3G or 4G network one backup would take several hours. Updates, which are downloads rather than updates, could be faster, but still slow compared to Wi-Fi and would tie up carrier networks for hours.

Both bandwidth and speed are resolved with 5G, which is why carriers (and indirectly Apple) will now allow backups, updates and downloads over a 5G connection.
