Unable to verify an Apple Account with new phone number

I’m trying to verify my Apple ID, but whenever it says it sent me a code, the number it shows is my old one, and I have a new number.

I have clicked the option that says to put a trusted number but when I put my new number it says that it’s incorrect.

Apple securely protects each Apple Account so that no unrecognised device can gain access, even if the Apple Account owner has a new unlisted device.

Seems the only "trusted" phone numbers and devices that Apple recognises are those already listed in your Apple Account. If you also have a "trusted" computer or device listed, you could try signing in to get a verification code on that. Once signed in to your Apple account, you could change the trusted phone number to your new one. (You may need to add the new number first, so you can then delete the old number. )
