My debit card linked with Apple Pay was declined for transit fares

I got an email that my subway fare was not accepted through Apple Pay. After adding my debit card while talking to the transit authority and then contacting my bank, I was assured that everything was okay. It worked at the grocery store. However, when I tried to take the bus, my card through Apple Pay was declined. Does anyone know what’s going on?

Apple is not a bank. Apple Pay does not approve or decline purchases. If a purchase was declined, it was the bank that declined the purchase. Apple Pay transmits encrypted data between your iPhone and the merchant. If your bank didn’t decline the transaction, it was possibly and issue with the transit company’s credit card processor or and issue with their internet connection.
