After upgrading my M1 iMac to Sequoia yesterday, I've been noticing that the CPU usage for Google Drive is constantly high (25 to 45%). Since none of the Google Drive folders are downloaded, this CPU usage in the past has always been very low--so low as to be almost unnoticeable.
There are a few posts on Reddit about this same issue.

The last Version 100.0.2.0 resolve this problem in my M1 pro.
I was having yhus CPU overconsumption issue for a while, and ir got resolved doing the update.
Just click in the Google Drive icon at the bar, and then select "More Options Menu" and then select "Help.
At the page, click in "Install and set up Drive for desktop for macOS",
Download and install the update without needing to uninstall the previous version, and that’s it!
Yesterday I opened a case at Google Drive Support and they replied needing more information, which I did. I sent them a PDF with a lot of screenshots and an explanation about this issue.
Let's wait and see what happens...

This may be the solution I have to take. I'm thoroughly into Google with 4 accounts that I use daily between work and a volunteer job (hence I can change to another service), and I need to see if that's what choking up my MBPro.

Unfortunately, there seems to be no way for an individual user to update to Google Drive version 100.
I went here and downloaded GoogleDrive.dmg and updated, and am still on version 99:
There is no option in the Google Drive app to update the app.

The ridiculous part is that their policy claims that it's OK to share a link if it "directly resolves the problem being discussed" or something along those lines. And apparently your attempt to re-share it has also been scrubbed, too.
It's not like I was trying to share some shady link to a random cloud service provider... it's a direct, publicly available link that Google themselves host.

Same. Upgraded to MacOS 15 last Tuesday, seeing Google Drive PU running ~40% consistently. Can only imagine what it's doing to my battery life.
After 1 week on Sequoia, CPU usage for Google Drive remains high. In Activity Monitor, it almost always has the highest CPU usage of any process.
Yes, Google Drive is running at 61% on M1 MacBook Pro. Been happening since the Sequoia upgrade.

Me too. Google drive is 98.0.0 version, macos is 15.0.1.
