Since IOS 18 on iPhone, Apple TV remote constantly open on my Home Screen

I did the software update and since then my iphone Home Screen won’t show the photo chosen or my data but the Apple TV remote largely open even when I’m not home or not connected to WiFi. I can’t get rid of it. The remote itself doesn’t connect to my TV even if I’m near the tv and trying to connect. I Tried to change the remote setting, deleted the remote widget, checked accessibility. Can’t get rid of it. Any suggestions?

I’m having this same issue after updating to iOS 18.

I used to be able to fix this by opening the “Control Other Speakers & TVs” section from the Control Center, and selecting my iPhone. However now the only way I can get it to go away is by restarting my phone. Which works, but obviously this is annoyingly inconvenient and not the expected behavior. Definitely seems like a bug to me.

Also experiencing this. Here are some more details nobody else has yet mentioned:

  1. My wife’s iPhone (iPhone 14) doesn’t have the problem—maybe unique to Pro and Pro Max?
  2. The problem persisted for me across 2 iPhones—my former iPhone 15 Pro Max and my new iPhone 16 Pro Max—both of them 1TB variants
  3. The issue seems to manifest after restarts again after I’ve opened the remote app, successfully used it, and then locked the screen.
  4. The device selector at the top of the remote app cannot be interacted with as soon as the bug manifests.

Will be experimenting to find other ways to resolve it—hopefully permanently.

Will post back here if I learn anything new.

I found a solution to this (that worked for me). Here’s what I did to get rid of the issue.

  1. Unpair the remote app in Apple TV settings.
  2. Open spotlight search, type “Remote” sans quotes.
  3. long press on the second of two nearly identical (but not exactly identical) app icons returned with the same name, and select “delete” (the one you don’t want to delete will actually not have a delete option. If you’re using dark mode then the icon will have an off-white background.
  4. Hard restart your iPhone (tap and release up-volume, tap and release down-volume, hold down the side button until you see the Apple logo pop up a second time, letting go when you see it).

After doing that I’ve not had the issue reemerge (so far so good after ~4 different sessions over the last 18 hours or so).

Hope this works for you all too. Cheers!!!
