Qardio has gone bankrupt and app is missing from App Store

I just upgraded to the iPhone 16 Pro from the 15 Pro. Everything worked fine except for the Qardio app which is missing from the App Store. Thus it can't be used on the 16.

This is a real bummer as I have all 4 Qardio products. I have been using them for years and keeping historical records for health purposes. I'm seeing rumors that Qardio has gone bankrupt but haven't found any details. I've sent several messages to their support staff in recent days but have not received any replies. I do note that their online store is still selling their products as if nothing has happened. I consider this dishonest, at the very least. For the record, Amazon is also selling Qardio products. Imagine buyers' anger when they find out that the advertised app is unavailable.

This brings me to the big question: Why was the app removed from the App Store? I can't believe that Apple knows about this situation and the problems it will cause for many iPhone users like me. Maybe they would agree to put the app back up.

iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18

looks like they changed the app name to “qardio heart health”. I had the same issue due to a phone upgrade and just found the “new” app and downloaded and it worked. Good luck to all!

Great find. It also appears that they have changed the link on their website to point to this app instead of the previous link that said the app was not available. The app has been in the App Store for over a year with the latest update being 6 months ago, so not sure if it is actually new or what changes have been made. Hopefully they are back on track. It is odd that they have not kept their users informed on what is going on and that their Support link is still not functional.

After messaging to their previous VP of application development and their co-founder on LinkedIn, they have made the app available again on the app store. Please note: all senior management of the company are working somewhere else already.

You can "login" after installing the app and see your previous data history. I think that "login" no longer login to their servers as my QardioBase had problems syncing data with their servers for many months already. I have to make it to communicate with the Qardio app directly through Bluetooth instead of going through WiFi.

SOLVED! I just now was able to download the app to my new iPhone, here: https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/qardio-heart-health/id855275752

Not sure why I cannot find it searching the App Store, but google led me here (also in the App Store), and it works! I logged in and it synced with all my previous scans. I also can't find anything about them going out of business, maybe they just released a new version of their app and/or are having issues with the App Store search?

Any developer can remove their app from the App Store at any time. Apple cannot force a developer to keep their apps in the store and have no right to have it in the store without their permission. You will need to get the information from the developer of the app as they don't need to provide any reason if they no longer want to make it available. You can also inquire why they are continuing to advertise the app on their website.

Assume it’s Apple rather than Qardio that has taken the app down… very disappointing!

Unfortunately, you cannot assume that. If the developer is out of business, they are not going to be able to:

  • Pay the the servers to store the app data
  • Pay for support for the app
  • Pay to have the app maintained. Apps require updating so they do not crash.

Of course the developer is going to remove the app if they go out of business. Apple does not remove the app from your phone when the developer removes the app from the App Store. You will still have the app on your phone, but will no longer be able to download it again from the App Store and if the app relies on external servers that they would have to pay for, the app will no longer work.

Did the app still work for you on your other device that had it installed? Users are reporting that the app no longer works even on devices where it is installed. This indicates that there servers are also down that used to maintain your account. The account was required to use the devices. Not sure if this was only the case using certain devices or if it is true for all of the devices that they sold.

Hopefully another company will purchase them. They have a strong user base and a lot of assets including medical certifications where another company could come in and take over. Unfortunately there has been no information as their emails go unanswered and their Support page is no longer active. This has all happened very quickly and it would be in the best interest for them to make some announcement, especially if they are looking to sell to someone else.

I do not think Apple should be blamed at all. I purchased the QardioBase X from the Qardio website last week in Australia and payment went to them and shipped from Sydney I also cannot get the App or contact support at all. All their support links and email addresses are not working. If this company is bust why are they still selling hardware that cannot be used to its potential. I

You should contact your Government Consumer Agency to file a report. In the US, it is the FTC, but not sure about Australia. You are correct, they should not be allowed to continue to sell products that they no longer support. Hopefully you will be able to get a refund for the product just purchased.
