El Capitan is barely enough to get a version of Safari that can handle modern https security.
Firefox 78 ESR might be a little less outdated than El Capitan's version of Safari, but it is still extremely outdated. It has been almost three years since Mozilla ended all support for it.

It's long past time to replace that 17-year-old computer with a much newer computer.

You probably can't find any ExpressCard/34 cards now – and even the fastest original ExpressCard/34 cards would not be able to operate at more than 2.5 Gbps speed (half the speed of USB 3.0).
The 2007 MBPs use 2-core Intel Core 2 Duos: T7500, T7700, or T7800 ("Merom"). Even the "price point" model (M2 MacBook Air) in Apple's current lineup would leave it in the dust. Geekbench CPU scores:
