Why is my iPhone 16 Pro Max battery draining so fast?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone noticed their 16 pro max battery draining quicker than it should? Got the phone on launch day, under Settings>Battery it mentioned some updates running in the background may affect battery and thermal performance so I waited. Now that the message is gone, I still notice the battery draining quicker than usual.

My 16 pro battery is draining faster than my 13's battery. Not sure I'll want to keep this phone-may just keep the 13 and send the 16 pro back.

If you have any Meta apps installed, you can bet it is doing something. Before you do anything, remove the apps and compare the results.

Take Instagram for example and view the information that it is harvesting about you. You can view this in the Privacy Policy of the App Store. Why does it need all this information for a photo app? Well, the app is free, but Meta makes its money by selling your information to advertisers. Add another app such as Facebook and those effects are doubled.

I got my 16 pro max on launch day (arrived sept 20th) and was just sure that the battery would be better than my 13 pro max which had 85% battery health left. I completely understand that the initial set up would drain down some battery and it did. But since then, I have turned off nearly everything that everyone says to turn off which sucks because some of those things are cool, but it still drains SUPER fast. I got all day out of my 13 pro max with 30 or 40% to spare most of the time and I have 2 phone lines on it. 1 for personal, and the 2nd for work.

That being said... I did a controlled test last night. I have my phone set to only charge to 90%. So I charged it to 90% and then laid it on my nightstand and turned on "do not disturb" and woke up the next morning and it had drained down to 78%. It makes no sense. I still haven't sent back my 13 pro max because I'm not too sure about whether I'm going to keep this phone or not after these battery issues. I want to think it's just some sort of software bug, but I honestly can't tell at this point. I wish someone from Apple would address this and say that there is a battery drain issue and they are aware and it will be addressed with 18.0.1 or something. To say the least, I'm frustrated.

Now, on the other hand, I also bought the apple watch ultra 2 in black (from the apple watch 8 45mm) at the same time and that battery life is UNREAL. It's amazing. 10/10. would recommend.

Incorrect! That 18.0.1 release “fixed” the issue either the touchscreen being unresponsive on some occasions and other issues with the camera.

same issue as everyone here, battery draining faster than my 14 pro which has 85% on the battery health. Going to the genius bar in Fri, they’ll pbbly change my phone but I think I’ll just return it and keep my 14pro… I don’t want to wait for a software update to fix this issue. Disappointed that once again they released a phone which is clearly not ready and with false advertisement (apple intelligence).

18.0.1 supposedly fixed the touch screen issue but I still have the issue…

Contacted apple support and they agree the battery was decreasing too fast but can’t see the issue… it’s pbbly all hush hush now…

After a week, here’s how my phone battery has been acting on average:

8:30am Full charge

5-6pm: ~50%

10pm: ~20-30%

6:30am the next day when I wake up: 5-15%

I then charge it back to full power for the day.

This is on an average screentime of 5hrs 30mins.

I used lightroom a bit but whats weird is I still get the same battery life whether I used a bit of lightroom or not. And my battery still drowns to below 20% while I sleep. On my previous iPhone 14 Pro, the battery drain while I sleep was very minimal and not more than 10% down.

My photos are still indexing though after a week. Not sure how to speed up this process. I have almost 50k photos and vids so maybe thats why?

Iphone 16 pro max :: Battery drains like 1% every 5 mins when on a regular phone call. No apps running in the back ground and got my phone like 5 days back. Phone updated when first received and assumed the indexing would take a couple of day but apparently no luck even after day 5. Apple support ran some diagnostics and see no issue and the battery health is at 100%. Most running app in last 5 days was phone at 31% and Lifetime call time from cellular option is 4 hrs 31 minutes with total cycle count at 5. No way close the claim of 33 hrs of video and at best may last 3 hrs of video. Definitely think it's a lemon and booked an appointment to return it before the 14 day ends.

Ok i am going to give this a few more days. The battery indexing doesnt only show in settings>battery. If you are like me with >50k photos and videos, I guess it really takes time to index these. If you go to search in the photos app and search for something, you’ll see it is still indexing despite me having my iPhone 16pro since launch date on Sep 20. i guess it really takes time to index all those photos and videos.

It is now Sep 28 and the battery drains faster than my iPhone 14 pro. I’ll update again in a week’s time maybe
