Why is my Apple Ultra 2 digital crown unresponsive at times?

Received my black Ultra 2 yesterday. I have noticed that the Digital Crown will not always respond when pushed in. Never an issue with scrolling purely just pushing in. It feels fine and you feel the click etc. interestingly it only seems to happen when using the crown on the main watch face. If I’m in an app or whatever it works every time. It’s strange as it will work fine for a few inputs and then suddenly will not respond for 5/6 times. I don’t think it’s hardware related. Anyone else experiencing this. Obviously it’s on watch OS11 as shipped with this.

I see it the other way round. My thinking is if it was a hardware issue with the crown this would be replicated throughout all the watch menus. The fact the issue only happens when you push in the crown when you are on the Home Screen/Watch face makes me think it is firmware/software.

The crown works perfectly normally scrolling regardless of location in watch and the crown does exactly what it is supposed to do (take you back to watch face) everywhere in the watch menus…the only issue is that it will fail to respond when pushed in quite frequently when on the watch face.

That’s my thinking. Weird no other reports of it. I cannot see how it can possibly be hardware related though as it has never happened in any other menu/place on the watch no matter how I try and replicate it. I don’t understand how a hardware issue would correspond to it only happening when pressing in the crown from the watch face yet nowhere else within the watch. It’s strange as I can press the crown in on the watch face and it will snap to apps 20 times in a row without fail then it will fail to respond for 5 times in a row. I haven’t tried unpairing and repairing so will do that but if persists then it’ll go back.

Thanks for reply.

Was bought through my network. Can return for any reason within 14 days but is a faff to be honest. Obvs if I suspected a hardware issue I would without a doubt but just from monitoring it can see it must be software. I think I’d maybe in the same situation with a replacement watch who knows? I’m hoping an update is pushed out very soon to see if that resolved it. Would certainly be reassuring to hear others having a similar thing on watchOS11. If I do return it I’ll probably just stick with my Garmin.

Done the forced reset a few times and didn’t resolve. Just done the pair/repair and hasn’t resolved. The pair/repair wouldn’t do much anyways I’m guessing as it will still be the same firmware on device. I just cannot see how it could be hardware but regardless of cause you don’t want a device doing this from day one so guess I’ll have to send it back. Like you say it’s telling no other reports of same/similar issues. Think I’ll stick with the Garmin and their flakey firmware.

This is interesting. I've got a 9 month old u2 and the crown doesn't always scroll on the Home Screen, but does in apps. The click in action always works, but the rotate is very intermittent. I was convinced it was hardware until I realized that it's working in apps so presumably can only be software. Here's hoping for an update, I don't want the hassle of taking it to Apple for a warranty service.
