iPhone 16 w/IOS 18 -can’t log into some apps

I’ve seen it with 2 apps so far -American Airlines & Yahoo Fantasy—the issue is when selecting Log In on each app-it then opens up the safari webpage to log in -at that point I’m unable to type anywhere, no keyboard opens up , nothing.

It appears that this issue happens with apps that kick you to a safari website to log in vs apps which you sign in on the actual app if that makes sense.

iPhone 16 w/IOS 18 -can’t log into some apps

One million thank you's sir!!!!

I have been plagued with this anomaly for 9 days now. I have posted on Apple Developer and Microsoft forums and called Microsoft tech support about this horrible issue. I could not install the Microsoft Authenticator or login to anything related to Microsoft on my new iPhone 16 Pro running iOS 18.

Your suggestion/tip below worked like a charm!!!! THANK YOU!

To elaborate a little, as to my specific experience;

Settings > General > scroll down to VPN & Device Management [select]. > VPN [select]. > simply turning off VPN Status will auto reconnect and turn VPN back on. > Select ExpressVPN Lightway [CLICK ON the blue I ] > TURN OFF Connect on demand.

BAM...after 8 days of sheer frustration my Microsoft Authenticator installed perfectly. Prior to this fix I had cleared my browser cache, uninstalled all Microsoft Apps including the Authenticator and Edge. Always upon reinstalling the Authenticator when trying to login I kept getting "Too Many Requests" !!!!

The above solution worked perfectly! thanks for the tip Lawrence! Credit where credit is due.

Well, that’s likely the problem if you DID have VPN on a device you transferred from.

An important and frequently overlooked fact is that when you install VPN it configures itself to the specific hardware, OS version and network that the device uses. If any of those change it can break the VPN. So any time you change any of these you may need to delete the VPN app and profile, restart your device, then add them back (if you still want to use VPN) so it can configure itself to the new environment.

Here's more detail about: VPN - What you need to know

Thank you! Turning off 'Block all cookies' in Safari settings fixed my issue of not being able to log into the Kroger app which apparently kicks the login page back to safari.
I buy their cookies, but they steal mine.

All apps are really a user interface to websites, so Safari settings apply when using an app.

And if you block all cookies 90% of all websites won’t work.

Do you have an app that tries to log in with a general web browser like Safari? Have an app that gives you a blank login screen with no boxes to fill in? If you've already tried fiddling with VPN and other settings, try this solution instead. I've had this problem for a long time with some apps, including Wyndham Hotels and American Airlines. This solution fixed it for both apps:

First, swipe away the app button. Then go to the Safari app on your iPhone and log in to the desired site using Safari. You may then see a prompt appear at the top of the Safari screen asking you to view the desired site in the real app. Try doing that; it should enable the problematic app to store your login information on future launches.

If not:

While still logged in to the Safari app, try pressing the desired app's actual button on your iPhone (NOT the Safari prompt this time). The app may then be able to retrieve and retain your login information using Safari's running session, enabling it to log in by itself without assistance thereafter.

I hope this works for you all too. ❤️

I am also having trouble logging on to my Grab app, a telecom rewards app, and two other apps. I see no issue when logging onto these apps on an Android phone. I already installed, reinstalled, restarted my phone and even contacted the developers but they’re still not working.

Do you use VPN? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile.

Its different apps for different people it seems and not related to phone nor just ios 18 but link between ios18 and some apps. So mine is tesla app and other local insurance apps. very annoying… apple and the companies need to fix this! ASAP!

Do you have a 3rd party VPN installed, even if you are not using it? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile. If that fixes it, you can try reinstalling VPN.

I have a new iphone16 and have been fighting with it all day! I read all the questions and answers, and voila - I was able to sign in to Facebook!!! I had a McAfee VPN in the Settings/General/VPS & Device Management, and was able to delete that VPN!! Now I'm back on Facebook on my new phone! Thank you all for your suggestions and assistance! I was going nuts trying to figure it out!!
