Find my locked on turned on for old iphone but I need it turned off for trade in.

Im trying to take my old iPhone off my find my for trade in, but the toggle to turn it off is locked in the on position. Im trying to turn it off and reset/erase the iPhone for trade in. Can anyone advise on this? For trade in it needs to be turned off and erased. Thanks
