Edit button missing on my photos in iPhone post iOS 18 update

I downloaded ios18 and now have no edit button on my photos in the gallery when I touch a photo. How do I get it back so I can use third party editing apps?

Yes, thanks Apple. You’ve hidden the editing tools. You’ve moved my albums so I have to scroll down endlessly to get to them. And even the order of recent photos has changed so that now I can’t find anything. WHY?!?!?!?

When I click on the 3 'bubble lines' at the bottom, it see 'Cancel' upper left-hand corner, 'Done' on the upper right-hand corner and "Loading" on the photo and it stays that way until it stops and then reverts to the original photo without the options to edit it.

The three dots at the top give me copy, duplicate, hide, play as a slideshow, add to album, adjust date & time, adjust location.

I am also unable to email myself photos using the Icloud link now; it is stuck on ' Preparing iCloud Link...' and then it fails.

After a lot of clicking on photos to edit I just found out that if you click 2 times on the 3 dots a little lock 🔒 will come in top of the pic in the right left corner …!! So I clicked on the 🔒and disappeared saying .. “unlocked screen”..!!? or something similar (sorry I can’t remember exactly right now ) but I was able to edit the photo I was working with..!!

so … long story short :

click the 3 dots twice (quickly)

and be at the look out for the little 🔒

the click on it , then when disappears

you should’ve able to exercise the edit function . Is easy, im not god at any of this and if i was able to found a way you will too..!! 👍 good luck 🍀

However I still working on how to understand what they did about my photo gallery … the pics are smaller , I can’t get rid of the ones showing at the button and the distribution of all my pics is unbearable..!!

very disappointed with this new IOS18 Apple has forced us into..!!

I think Apple is having no consideration with the Apple Community. The even emailed me to tell me they were deleting my previous message asking about this problem. I asked why ..!?? I’m still waiting for a response 🤷‍♀️..

bascoconnie, you are looking at the bottom of the screen. Look at the top right of the screen after tapping the three lines. Look for and tap the circle with three dots to get a drop-down menu:

Use the "Extensions" entry in the drop-down menu to get the list of third-party apps you have that are able to edit with the current Photos app.

No guarantee that any specific older app will still work, of course. They have to use the Extension interface these days. PS Express works, for example.

OK, guys, edit is sort of still around. The three lines, tap that, and it does appear down there where you can crop the picture, flip it, You can still put Text on a picture so agreed Tap on the three lines at the bottom. I left a crappy reply, saying I couldn’t find it and after reviewing again, I did find edit. It just doesn’t say edit. Three lines click there

Any way for Apple to see the GRIEF they have caused? Do they get feedback and if so where?! What alot of wasted man hours trying to recoup what we had been contentedly using and mastering. All those programmers should be relieved of their jobs. Bring on a new set with ordinary common sense.

Ps: I’m almost 80, a semi professional photographer for many yrs, love the iPhone’s creative possibilities, love the basic editing tools and then onward from there, feel totally worked over by these ‘upgrades’ (it gives the word ‘upgrade’ a new and special meaning)…..
