iPhone mirroring new phone error

I am unsure on how to use the iPhone mirroring option, as I recently upgraded to iPhone 16 pro, however, the laptop is still detecting my old iphone 12 as my main phone, and keeps trying to get me to update the phone. How would I get it so that my laptop connects to my new phone instead?

If you have more than one iPhone signed in to your Apple Account and nearby, you can choose the one that your Mac uses for mirroring and iPhone notifications:

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Desktop & Dock in the sidebar
  2. Choose your iPhone from the iPhone pop-up menu on the right. This menu appears just below the “Use iPhone widgets” setting when your Mac detects more than one iPhone that can be used for mirroring.
