week old MacBook Pro M3 pro overheating

I purchased my brand new MacBook Pro M3 Pro 24GB laptop one week ago. As of two days ago, when running software well within the limits of what the pro can handle, it has started to get VERY hot within 3 minutes (I have timed it on my phone). No fan noises.


Very, very disappointing considering the amount I have outlaid to purchase the pro, and has made me very nervous about this being an issue in the pro even if this individual computer is replaced. Has anyone had any experience similar to this or might know what is going on?


I updated to the newest software (Sequoia 15.0) as of this afternoon, which has not made any difference.

It is under warranty if you bought from Apple. Have it evaluated as soon as possible.


Also, heat can be a usage/workstation issue. See:


Keep your Mac laptop within acceptable operating temperatures - Apple Support


On your model, cool air intakes are on each side:



The entire hinge area is the hot air exhaust. If any of the vents are blocked, internal temps will increase as fast as you describe. So can a keyboard cover.


Useless software like anti-virus, so-called "cleaning" apps, and client-side VPNs can also cause overheating as they compete with elegant self-maintenance and protection routines you paid Apple to build into macOS.

Thanks so much, I will do this today. Computer was at 67 degrees last night and fans one and two were at 10768 and 15565 RPM respectively (insane, I shut down the program I was running immediately). I know the temps can be below 73 or so degrees C but that fan speed had me concerned. I took it into an authorised Apple service centre this morning and the service person wasn’t super helpful, so I might try my luck with contacting Apple support online
