iPhone 16 Pro Max's camera crashes when taking photos

I have a 16 pro max. When I try to take a picture the camera crashes. After I restart my iphone the camera is normal again, until the problem returns.

It looks like that ios 18.1 has fixed my issue

I mean it’s been 24 hours only since I installed the update but I tried the camera app and the sode button several times to see if the app crashes or not, but so far it’s seems fine. I hope I dont face that issue again coz it’s super frustrating and makes me wanna throw away my phone. Fingers crossed

Will keep y’all posted

No issues personally (I have been using the camera heavily since receiving it on Friday). Someone else also mentioned they had an issue with Apple Music…I have not had any issues with that either. Not sure if those of you having issues are experiencing something that is a hardware issue (although one person states that they had their phone replaced only to have the issue remain) or if it is a random bug that isn’t affecting anyone. If you haven’t already, contact Apple for further assistance asap. If it is an iOS bug the more that report it the quicker it can be addressed with an update once they are able to do so. If it is a hardware failure you can get it exchanged while still in the return/exchange window or opt to return it and wait until a later date to try again once you feel like the issue may have been addressed (especially once it gets closer to that window closing if you don’t feel comfortable waiting for an unknown time for a fix to arrive).

Same here, I cannot take videos or photos. My phones freezes and restarts. I see a lot of kernel panics in the Analytics as well (Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Analytics Data > panic-full-YYYY-MM-DD-TIME). Could you check yours as well? Do you see any such logs?

edit: Apple also replaced my phone today and the replacement is experiencing the same exact issue.

Yes I have the same problem with my iPhone 16 Pro Max the

camera app crashes every time I take a photo and following Apple support the

only thing you can do is shut the phone down wait 30 seconds then restart.

Following this procedure my iPhone will take pictures all

day with no problem but I noticed the problem seems to manifest after a

recharge at night, contacted Apple and let them run a diagnostic test but they

could find no problems so in my opinion maybe a firmware issue, currently

running 18.0.1.

iPhone 13 mini, just upgraded to 18 and same problem. Seems intermittent, and yes, restart of phone only workaround so far. Only my rear camera, only in photo mode (not video), if working entire thing is still super laggy. (Take a photo, no evidence of said photo in app and then an hour later suddenly they show up as if it had worked all along.). Have been on a diagnostics call w. Apple--no problems w. hardware or storage availability, entirely a software glitch. Am also having some of the ghost typing (extra letters appearing) but only in one specific app. In short, iOS 18 shouldn't have gone out to public (and without the ability to downgrade back either. woof.)

Few notes to add : the problem recurs after a reboot after 1 or 2 days ( not sure what triggers it ) when it crashes , seems to blow up Bluetooth / music / other stuff and causes phone to be laggy for minutes afterwards - also noticed that after the crash - the OS thinks the camera is still on ( shows the amber dot indicator for camera forever until you reboot ) - I have shared diags ans logs with Apple who think not a hardware issue and engineering teams are investigating - I expect there will be a patch soon enough.

Same situation for me - it was an upgrade from a IPHONE 13 Pro max and restored from backup . All the same symptoms as described by others - camera crash on launch / it also takes out Bluetooth and other stuff. I have reported to Apple and sent various logs , they offered a new handset but this is clearly a software problem. Not fixed by 18.01 . No feedback from their engineers on a fix.
