iPhone 16 Pro Max's camera crashes when taking photos

I have the same problem. But found out it might also have something to do with the Ram management. Because that’s really bad on my phone too! More people experiencing this?

when I check it with an app it says it’s completely full and the phone keeps reloading apps. Maybe that’s the point that the camera works after restart. Then the ram is filling up again and it stops. Might be the problem?

my iPhone 16 pro max also turns really hot after the crash and loses around 5% of battery.

I don't have this problem, but I don't have the iPhone 16 Pro Max- I just have the ordinary iPhone 16 Pro. Suspect it's a conflict between an app and the new iOS 18. Recommend anyone with this problem share diagnostics with Apple.

My iphone is also crashing after I open the camera app and I can’t take pictures. I think it is a device issue because I bought 3 new iPhone 16 pro max 512 gb phones this week and it only happens with 1. I have one for work and 1 for personal use. It only happens with the black one.

I upgraded from a iPhone 15 Pro Max as a family member wanted to buy that off me. I used the transfer method where you put old and new phone next to each other and still have the problem. Pretty sure it is a software issue

no suggestions as I spoke to Apple and they said they’re aware of the issue like everyone is having and that hopefully the next update will fix the issue once and for all.

In the meantime, my camera crashes everyday.

Yes same for me but the iOS 18.1 has fixed the camera problems and all my other apps that I have running at the same time have no lag, stall or general slowness to respond, all the camera buttons work as they should do so hopefully Apple have made the fix?

Same issue. 16 pro. Camera freezes, laggy, black screen, hot. ok after restart then recurs. 18.0.1 does not fix it. I have seen that restart, reinstall even new phone does not fix

Camera crashing, also many other sluggish functions. Seems like a software issue. Touchscreen not reacting correctly at times.

I'm having the same issue with the camera app freezing, going black screen or totally crashing. Spoke to apple who really didn't help as they did remote diagnostics and it showed no issues... replacement is on the way but suspect it wont be any different as its sounds like a software issue rather than hardware.

My new iPhone 16 pro has so many issues!!! Photos turn to black screen when you try to open one!! This is just one problem!! Also keeps changing my home screen photo!!

Do we get new phone or continue to wait for new software??

No I upgraded from the 15 pro max which worked well so pretty upset this one is so buggy. The most annoying thing for me along side this camera button issue is that my keyboard is super laggy and glitchy. I will be typing and it misses and skips letters which in turn autocorrects the wrong word. But yea when I go to take a picture (the picture doesn’t take) the screen just blacks out and the camera crashes but sometimes it takes a screen shot and the camera crashes.

Apple replaced my new iphone 16 pro (it also had a nonfunctioning lens on the camera) with another new iphone 16 pro and the camera issue still remains. It’s very frustrating to say the least. Oh and the phone still gets really hot.

Same, it’s almost impossible to take pic when your in rush and literally have reboot iPhone every time to get it to work.

Same here, as well with the new camera button the animation is laggy and crashes my whole phone. Also, the music app won't work fro me as well.
