Auto-Correction is changing my words incorrectly after iOS 18 update on iPhone

It’s pretty much the same in swedish. The most irritating is the word ”i”, ”jag” in swedish. Everytime i write ”jag” my phone writes ”Kaj” that is a VERY unusual name i sweden.

”I” mean… the word ”i” is a pretty common word in most languages ”i” guess!?

It is horrendous! I have had it change correctly spelt words by inserting new words in the middle of them, resulting in an incorrectly spelt word! It is usually “me” that it tries to insert into a bigger word. Call that “intelligence”? 🤦‍♂️

but there are two good things I can mention the first is that is the heaviest telephone I had in my life so it’s nice because I don’t need to go to gym and the second is permanently hot very very hot so it’s OK because in winter I have no problems.

AutoCorrect is not just unusable, is mostly inaccurate especially when using speech to text. It creates words that are not even in the dictionary. At least not common language words. This has been happening over the last 2 to 3 years. I used to rely 100% on speech to text for iMessage, especially or other chat apps. No longer.

I tried to replace the keyboard with Google’s, which would include Google speech to text, however, Apple doesn’t really allow you to replace that function cleanly. When using Google it has to go to another screen to capture it and then bringing it back as a pain in the butt.

if Apple is not going to fix it, then at least allow us to replace it with a third-party seamlessly.

it is truly amazing that with the increased accuracy of machine, learning and AI chat, bots, the Apple and Siri are decreasing exponentially in accuracy and usability.

BTW. Excuse some of my typos above and misplacement of commas, after all, I was using Apple‘s speech to text. I caught most of the problems, including sentence structure, however, not easy. 😕

it's ATROCIOUSLY awful. it was always bad imo, but it really is almost unusable now. it keeps correcting words that were correct to begin with, so i send texts that make no sense even tthough they sure as **** did when I typed them. Particularly embarrassing with work...

please, Apple, don't give us some bs response or explanation or worst of all explain what WE are doing wrong. just FIX IT. Pretty please. :)

I’ve been an Apple user for so many years probably close to 15 years and I’ve never had this problem until now and I use my phone for work that I’m now at the point that I’m considering going to android because it’s that ridiculous and taking 20 minutes to write an email is time consuming and annoying. Fix your stuff Apple or don’t release it, seriously are you trying to push away your customers…….

i.e. It changes possessive determiners to definite determiners, « mes » to « les » and in this case, it’s even more frustrating because it just slightly changes the semantics and the other won’t notice, but won’t neither get the proper sense.

Yeah this is insane. I was hoping I wasn’t the only one but the only fix to this is really really really slowing down the speed of the thumb movement and inner voice when you type by a fair amount.

The speed of each thumb click is maybe slower than the sound you hear (first thing that I came up with) is your natural gas stove clicking sound. Keep it at that tempo or a bit slower and this whole time typing this actually I havnt had any issues.

there’s moments you want to speed up the thumb taps because it’s natural at this point but that’s where I see the little mis hits and then words get completely wrong.

before I wrote all of this I was experiencing so many wrong words, and what made me want to find this thread was when I was trying to type the word “version” and it kept changing it to bersion. Bersion isn’t a ****** word

Every-Time words become garbled and “-” are inserted randomly. Any answers from Apple? You cannot turn off-this thru turning-off self correct. Im assuming it is an AI glitch. Any other-keyboards download that works-better.

It astonishing how bad it is. Consider ChatGPT’s autocorrect and voice recognition which is almost spooky in how accurate it is. Amazing how far Apple has fallen behind the pack here, and even more astonishing is how, not only do they seem unable to catch up, they’re going backwards

We would have to write in hundreds of words. There’s no guarantee that would even work anyway since this is clearly a bug on apple’s end. It all started with the update the OP was talking about a few months ago and hasn’t been resolved since. I don’t know why people keep leaving the same useless advice about resetting keyboards when that won’t do jack sh*t.

hmmm that explains a lot. my phone has been set to spanish for years as i slowly learn it but english is certainly my first and only fluent language. i’ve had trouble in the past with spanish keyboard not recognizing english words, however previously i’ve just switched back to the english keyboard with no problem.

OMG I could have written all these posts, it’s driving me bonkers. I’m also having trouble with the space bar, where a letrrsppearsoinjits space, rendering the wording completelyyunrrsfablesometimes is user error but it usually auto correct not correcting. It’s taking me forever to type messages now.

like the last later, I didn’t. Protective the incorrect productive texts to show has bad it reallly is. (Neither did I correct this, T this rate texting is going to be nigh on impossible 😞

At least yours gets autocorrected into actual words. Mine will often autocorrect into a non English word. I have to use the revert icon to back to the right word. How is it so bad now that it will take a correctly spelled word and turn into actual gibberish? Major flaw for a company like apple.
