Intermittent low audio on AirPods Gen 2

I recently made a few calls using my AirPods with my iPhone where people have complained about the volume level of the mic. It has been intermittent because I have also had calls with no complaints as well. During one call, I did the following:


  • I placed the AirPods back in the changer, then removed them and they paired. Audio was still low.
  • I turned off Bluetooth and then turned it back on and the AirPods paired. Audio was still low.
  • I switch to both speaker and iPhone mic. Audio was normal.
  • I plugged in a wired set of Apple earbuds. Audio was normal.


I have Apple AirPods Gen 2 with an iPhone 14 running iOS 17.6.1.


Any suggestions would be appreciated.
