How do you recommend cleaning the stainless steel Milanese loop band. Hand soap and a clean cloth don't do it. Can you soak it in a Dawn soap and water solution?

Apple's official statement is a damp cloth. I've seen a number of other suggestions including using toothpaste on a soft cloth, but which if any work best I can't say. Tom's Guide has a number of suggestions here:
