Process "controller-daemon" taking more memory than my MacBook has?

This process has started running wild on my computer. I have 8gb of RAM and it's somehow using 9.21gb of it? Whole computer is slowing down and force quitting seems to do nothing.

A long shot, but do you have any game controller connected to your Mac, and/or any software installed for running such a controller? If you do, first disconnect the game controller and see if that makes any difference. If not, uninstall the controller's software and see if that helps. If it does, check with the maker of the controller and see if they have updated software for your device.

Hope this helps.

It is not on my machine with MacOS 15, so likely a third party process that launches on startup. Instead of guessing what it could be, post the free EtreCheck report using the Additional Text option when posting. The report does not contain any personal information, but will show processes that are launched on startup that may be responsible.

It's entirely possible that it's a process from Logi Options, and that Logi occasionaly hangs would seem to indicate a problem with it, anyway. I tried to peel the installer apart and check, but Logitech uses a monolithic installer so I can't see what drivers it will install. I would suggest removing it and seeing if that gets rid of that process.

I can't find anything anywhere that refers to that process and I don't see it on my Monterey Mac. It may be something new in Sequoia, or it may be a third-party process. Perhaps someone else here can identify it. One more long shot: are either your mouse or your keyboard third-party, and if so did they come with any software that you installed?

Regards.

Good point. My keyboard is Apple but the mouse is the Logitech MX2. I use Logi Options with it which has been misbehaving at times - hanging when it opens. Right this second it works fine. I tried installing SteerMouse a while back but it didn't work for me and I uninstalled it (I thought). Is it possible Logi options is doing this, or the two pieces of software are fighting over my mouse or something?
