No transcription option in Voice memo iOS 18 on iPad

I’ve updated to iOS 18 on iPad and iPhone. The transcription option isn’t there on the iPad — not under the three dot menu, nor does the new quote button appear.

what gives, is this an iPhone only supported feature?

From the iPadOS 18 User Guide:

View a Voice Memos transcription on iPad - Apple Support

"Speech in your audio recordings can be recognized and transcribed to text in Voice Memos (not available in all countries or regions). You can view the transcription while you’re recording or after.

If you open a recording made in an earlier version of Voice Memos (iPadOS 17 or earlier), Voice Memos will transcribe it automatically if it includes recorded speech."
