Voice Memos transcription not appearing on iPad

I've got some Voice Memos on my iPad which I'd like to transcribe.

I found a suggestion online which suggested there should be a speech bubble icon with a " in it, which would allow me to review the transcript of the memo but I don't seem to have that option. It says the version has to be iOS 18 and above, which mine is, but still don't have the option.

I then tried saving it to my files so I could use ChatGPT or CoPilot to do the transcribe but it doesn't accept whatever the format is that it saves it as.

Is there any way of getting a transcription of a Voice Memo from an iPad?

No, your iPad9 does not support transcription - this feature being dependent upon both hardware and installed version of iOS/iPadOS.

If you have another compatible iPad or iPhone that are (a) signed-in to the same Apple Account, and (b) you have enabled Voice Messages in iCloud on both devices, you can access transcription services on the compatible device.

Ahhhhh no, mine is 9th Generation, so that means it doesn't have that function? So it's not down to the iOS version then, but the actual model of the iPad?

Is there any way of downloading it in a format that can then be transcribed by another service?

I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max but it has a different Apple ID.

can I log out of my iPhone one, log into the iPad one, do what I need to do, then log back in with the original one, without losing any data?
