my boyfriend recently switched from android to iPhone. I’ve put his email in his number contact. Why are the messages separated still from his android messages that I've received and the iphone messages that he's recently sent me?

Emmalene, the messages are separated because they were sent from your Android via SMS or MMS, while the messages you receive now from your iPhone are being sent through iMessage, this being Apple's own messaging system. I hope I have answered your question 🧑🏻💻.
