I want to take photos from the recents album (and have them not show up there anymore) and move them to an album I created.
I know the hidden album kind of does this, but is it possible to do the same thing just with an album I created?
If not this should totally be a feature.

No. Recents will always show your recent photos in order of most recent. If you hide a photo from recent, it is hidden everywhere

The Hidden album is your choice, short of storing the photos somewhere outside the photo library, as afile or in some other app.
