Why is my Car Charger overheating my iPhone 13 mini?

Sooo… I read and truly appreciate the info re Laws of Thermodynamics AND I can appreciate the importance of a good charging wire. My problem is with the CAR charger heating up my phone within seconds. It is also my “hands-free” device holder, so I often “unplug” the charger so I can drive safely. But sometimes I am away from home (where I have Apple chargers) for long periods for multiple appointments and MUST use car charger to recharge my phone when it drops below 10%. Also, I did not have the 13 Mini when I bought this car charger/hands free holder, and the cradle is dicey bc it is a bit too large. I must tap it and then let it slide down to make the connection and then have actually had the phone fall out of it on a bumpy stretch of road!

Ok, got it. Here may be a few reasons why:

  • The iPhone 13 Mini supports fast charging, and many car chargers push higher wattages (15W or more) compared to older models like the iPhone 11 or 8. If your car charger is optimized for fast charging, the phone may heat up more quickly as it pulls more power, particularly if you're also using the phone for navigation or music streaming, which can stress the battery and processor.
  • If you're using a wireless car charger with your iPhone 13 Mini, heat buildup can happen due to the inefficiency of wireless charging compared to wired charging. The coils involved in wireless charging can cause more heat, especially in a hot environment like a car.
  • Cars can get quite warm, especially if you're in direct sunlight or don’t have your AC running at a cooler setting. This can combine with the power draw from the charger to cause your phone to heat up even faster. Of course, this should be true regardless of which smart phone model you have.
