AirPod Pro cannot change noise control. Triple beep.

I pressed the stem to switch to noise cancellation on my AirPod Pro. However, if I press the stem again, it gives a triple beep (three sounds in quick succession) and does not switch the noise control mode. I cannot leave noise cancellation without manually changing the mode on my connected Mac. What does this mean?

Discovered the problem. For some reason, in System Settings, for "Press to Hold to Cycle Between" only "Noise Cancellation" was checked, which prevented me from selecting a different setting (via the stem on my AirPods) and made the beeping warning. Interestingly, after I checked "Adaptive", I was unable to uncheck it because it would leave only one option. Guess Apple discovered the problem and fixed it?
