iPhone 16 Pro Battery Draining Quickly

Iphone 16 pro battery seems so poor. I unplugged my phone at 9:15 am and by 4pm it had only 32% with 3hrs of screen time. I did my 0.5gb update hoping it will extend baterry life and upgrade functionality of my iPhone.

How is it possible? Anyone experiencing bad battery life as well?

Here are a few insights from Apple Support’s official iPhone Battery Drain help page

Did you recently update your iPhone to a new version of iOS?

  • If you've recently updated your iPhone, battery life might drain faster than usual for a few days. Background tasks like indexing and syncing can temporarily affect performance, so give it time to stabilize.

Battery Suggestions

  • Auto-brightness: Enable auto-brightness to reduce battery usage.
  • Auto-lock: Activate auto-lock to prevent the screen from staying on unnecessarily.
  • Reduce Brightness: Lower your screen brightness if it's set too high.
  • Background Location: Limit location access for apps to "While in Use" to conserve power.

Battery Usage Overview

  • Check Activity & Battery Usage by App: Go to Settings > Battery to see which apps are using the most battery. Adjust settings for apps consuming excess power.

Other Battery Saving Tips

  • Use Wi-Fi: When possible, connect to Wi-Fi, as it consumes less battery than cellular data.
  • 5G Auto (iPhone 12 & later): Enable Smart Data mode to automatically switch between 5G and LTE to save power.
  • Low Power Mode: Activate this mode to reduce power consumption when the battery is low.

Battery Health

  • Check Battery Health: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health to see your battery’s condition. If "Service" appears, consider replacing the battery.

Sir . The thing that you are telling to everyone that background app we’re using battery is not true . And if Instagram and Snapchat is using all the battery in ver less time then this problem is facing in all iPhone 16 pro and other iPhone but this baterry drainage problem is related to iPhone not with Instagram so don’t blame Instagram and other apps if they were reason then all iPhone have this problem but only few iPhone have battery draining problem . Soo if u are not having reason kindly get me apple customer care number

Hello,

I'm writing here with the hope to finally find answers and solutions to my problem...

I had an iPhone 13 with great battery life and after changing my carrier and switching to a 5G contract, battery life was getting worse. I thought maybe it couldn't handle the new 5G technology and then switched to an iPhone 15 Pro. I had a terrible experience, the phone was always getting so warm, the battery was absolutely draining and it didn't get through the day. I had contact to Apple Support, they did diagnosis but said everything looked fine and I should turn off all the features like background app refresh, location services and AOD. Nothing of that really helped. Then I switched to another 15 Pro thinking it maybe was a faulty battery. But bam, same symptoms and I hadn't made any progress regarding the problem. I even reset it via my MacBook and set it up without any backup, costed me much time and the problem was still there. I thought maybe there were some problem with the 15 Pro line so I sold it and went for a 14 Pro and setting up from the 15 Pro backup because I had no nerves to freshly set it up again. And again, all the same problems still existed.... I went for that for a few months and now switched to a 16 Pro and set it up freshly without a backup thinking that can't happen again. And now having this brand new device for 10 days, it's still not giving me the battery life which was advertised...

Here are a few observations:

  • I now had 4 different phones in the last time and it can't be a hardware defective battery. It has to be something software related
  • when charging, the phones often got really warm without it being used
  • the animations, swiping on homescreen or through lockscreen, swiping out of apps or activating the dynamic island music widget when swiping out of playing music app is really laggy and stuttery and not like when I tried out a an iPhone 16 Pro on display in the store
  • when looking at my battery consumption graph, "home & lockscreen" is consuming a massive amount of battery. I compared to my family's and friend's phones and its proportion is about 2% when mine is about 18%. It could have something to do with the laggy animations on home & lockscreen. Maybe something in the background is slowing everything down and consuming energy.
  • on all phones, camera is eating battery really fast. Like taking 1-2 24MP pictures, it immediately dropped 1%.
  • while being on cellular data outside, the drain is even more apparent. And since I'm away for working, the battery on my commute does not hold up well.
  • I think for standard tasks it's taking much more energy and resources than needed, which results in a heavy battery drainage
  • generally the consumption does not correspond to my usage, meaning that after ~ 4h SOT the battery is down to 20%
  • And for example, if I put it in my pocket while waiting at a traffic light, and then take it out after crossing the street, I sometimes notice a 1-2% drop without any significant activity.
  • the problem is chasing me over iOS 17 and 18 as well as different (some of them reset and freshly set up) Pro models flagship iPhones. I just don't have the time and money to buy new phones or setting them freshly up when the majority of users can enjoy their perfectly working phone.
  • Since I did the test and set a 15 Pro as well as a 16 Pro freshly new up, it either has to do something with the software, the data like Notes, Reminders, Photos I downloaded over iCloud or the SIM which has been in all phones? I even switched to a new phone number thinking it was related to it but no really improvement. Could it be the carrier providing bad quality physical or eSim resulting in the poor battery life on cellular data?

So I really need help from an expert ASAP, I have done literally everything possible you can think of and Apple Support wasn't really helpful.

I appreciate any kind of help that contributes to solving my problem.

16 Pro:

23 min of home & lockscreen is taking more energy than 32 minutes of Instagram, this is absolutely ridiculous and normally home & lockscreen is a component which has a very low proportion of battery consumption.

Just got my 16 pro for Christmas 2024 and I have the same problem. I have to charge my phone twice in a single day just to be able to use it (and honestly I’m not on it all that much compared to most people these days). I went to run a quick errand one day, only an hour or so, and the battery had drained by 10% since I left my house and got back). If I leave the phone without touching it I notice it’ll also go down but I have no apps open in the background that are doing anything. My work phone which is an iPhone 14 standard can go almost 2 days without needing to be charged.
