iPhone 16 Pro Battery Draining Quickly

Iphone 16 pro battery seems so poor. I unplugged my phone at 9:15 am and by 4pm it had only 32% with 3hrs of screen time. I did my 0.5gb update hoping it will extend baterry life and upgrade functionality of my iPhone.

How is it possible? Anyone experiencing bad battery life as well?

Here are a few insights from Apple Support’s official iPhone Battery Drain help page

Did you recently update your iPhone to a new version of iOS?

  • If you've recently updated your iPhone, battery life might drain faster than usual for a few days. Background tasks like indexing and syncing can temporarily affect performance, so give it time to stabilize.

Battery Suggestions

  • Auto-brightness: Enable auto-brightness to reduce battery usage.
  • Auto-lock: Activate auto-lock to prevent the screen from staying on unnecessarily.
  • Reduce Brightness: Lower your screen brightness if it's set too high.
  • Background Location: Limit location access for apps to "While in Use" to conserve power.

Battery Usage Overview

  • Check Activity & Battery Usage by App: Go to Settings > Battery to see which apps are using the most battery. Adjust settings for apps consuming excess power.

Other Battery Saving Tips

  • Use Wi-Fi: When possible, connect to Wi-Fi, as it consumes less battery than cellular data.
  • 5G Auto (iPhone 12 & later): Enable Smart Data mode to automatically switch between 5G and LTE to save power.
  • Low Power Mode: Activate this mode to reduce power consumption when the battery is low.

Battery Health

  • Check Battery Health: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health to see your battery’s condition. If "Service" appears, consider replacing the battery.

It might be the 3 main reason of iPhone battery drain:

  1. Hardware issue - resolved by changing the phone.
  2. iOS software issue - fixed by manipulations with the phone.
  3. Corrupted file / app issue - fixed by deleting the files / apps and resetting the system.

Log of the fixing iPhone battery drain issue (if previous doesn’t help try the next):

  1. Restart phone.
  2. Soft reset phone.
  3. Change different settings:
  • Always On Display
  • Background apps activity
  • cellular settings
  • Siri settings
  • etc (a lot of video and articles)

4.Update iOS.

5.Reset phone and restore from iCloud.

6.Reset phone and set from scratch.

7.Reset phone with MacBook/PC.

8.Update iPhone firmware.

After each measure take time (couple of days / weeks) and observe phone behaviour.

If all of this doesn’t help - change the system (iPhone to Android “).

If it’s too doesn’t help - throw smartphone, use dumb phone and be happy ))

I bought 16 pro max almost 10 days ago and it was working fine but from today mu battery facing drain issue without heavy use. I lost 35% of battery in less than 3 hours without heavy usage. Too much irritating thing. Tell me the solution

After reading this post, what steps have you tried?

  • Reset using computer
  • Force Restart phone
  • Removed the known apps that have caused the problem and compared your results
  • Taken it to Apple for diagnostics

If you have tried those steps and you still find it irritating, I would suggest that you return the phone. In most regions you have 14 days, and you should not keep a device that you are having trouble with.

You usage is mostly irrelevant. The issue is the apps you're using may need to change, or they did change (via an update) and that’s what is causing the issues for you the last week.

As an example I watch YouTube almost exclusively on my iPad Pro. I noticed my battery consumption was much higher, I checked, and YouTube updated 4 or 5 days ago and my YouTube increase coincided with the update. Now I’m waiting for an update to fix their last update.

I don’t care about your time, look and see what apps consume you battery capacity.

Here’s my 24 hour and 10 battery capacity consumption by app,

Stop using Instagram and Snapchat and you won’t need to worry. I don’t use either app and look at my usage on a single charge. Why am I getting 10+ hours on my iPhone 16 Pro Max and you’re not?

Your options are to continue the way you are and that’s not satisfactory. You can discontinue using apps that are root cause of the issues, but that’s not satisfactory. You can wait for Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp and a handful of other defective apps to update a provide a satisfactory user experience.

It’s your software that’s causing your problems, not the hardware. Sorry.

The most important solution is to ensure that you are using the original Type C cable and the apple power adapter. I learnt the hard way after using a magsafe (some random brand) charger. Switched to the original usb c cable (I’m using the one came with my iPad but I also have the one came with the 16 pro, still in the box), and it improved my battery backup SIGNIFICANTLY!!

1. Hello
True that 16 Pro battery is not ideal. But my situation has slightly improved I did two things:
I switched off background refresh for all apps, and
2. completely drained of the battery and 30 minutes later I charged it to full 100%.
it has improved but it is still not very good. If you do Any photo and video recording it doesn’t last a full day. iPhone 16Pro is a Huge disappointment.

It is not recommended to full discharge any Lithium battery. The OP you replied to has resolved their battery issue and is back to full day performance. For others, remove Meta apps and check performance again. It is a simple test and once you identify the cause, the solution can be resolved by Meta.

I also have same problem with my iphone 16 , full charge battery without any use going down faster with in 2 hours

And I assume the same apps that have been posted here as the cause are on your device as well? Post the screenshot of your Battery usage as many have done here to see what is consuming your battery. You can then make the decision on what you want to do about it.

I’ve an iPhone 16 PM and have none of those issues. I routinely get 8 to 10 hours of screen time a day. At the end of the day I’ll have 20+% capacity left.

If you haven’t already done so, update to iOS 18.3 that was just released 2 days ago. If the issues continue contact Apple support for service. If you’re in the US please call  1-800-MY-APPLE or outside the US, consult the support articles below.

I am having a same issue. Battery life was perfect the best I ever had on the pro with iOS 18.0. Ever since like 18.2/3, it has gone downhill. All my battery saving changes do not increase battery life at all and are not improving with Apple software updates. Everyone is using 3rd party apps so removing those is not sufficient for Apple to say the reason for bad battery life because not everyone is impacted by the issue. I am experiencing these drains both on my iPhone 16 Pro and M1 MacBook Pro, so the issue lies within their software updates. I am having to charge the devices multiple times a day versus only charging once per day. I only get 3-6 hours max of battery life and battery health shows normal.

I would like to agree with your feedback but not everyone is experiencing the same issue with the same 3rd party apps so to me from an IT perspective, the issue likely within iOS and macOS software updates as both devices have different apps and getting roughly the same battery life performance. These issues started happening from iOS 18.2/3 since day 1 of iOS 18.0/1, I was getting around 10-15 hours of battery life. Now I am getting 3-6 and having to charge multiple times a day.

Jun 26, 2025 7:33 AM in response to Patryczeq

I have tried them all to no avail @Patryczeq. My solution was to disable Apple features related to notifications, background processing, etc. on my 16 Pro and keep it in low power mode 24/7.

Even with this dumbed down functionality, the phone's 100% capacity battery life is still not as good as it is on my 90% capacity iPhone 14. On most days, though, I can charge once a day in the evening and make it until the next evening if I don't use the phone too much. I would feel better about this problem if it had been admitted up front.
