iPhone 16 Pro Battery Draining Quickly

Iphone 16 pro battery seems so poor. I unplugged my phone at 9:15 am and by 4pm it had only 32% with 3hrs of screen time. I did my 0.5gb update hoping it will extend baterry life and upgrade functionality of my iPhone.

How is it possible? Anyone experiencing bad battery life as well?

Here are a few insights from Apple Support’s official iPhone Battery Drain help page

Did you recently update your iPhone to a new version of iOS?

  • If you've recently updated your iPhone, battery life might drain faster than usual for a few days. Background tasks like indexing and syncing can temporarily affect performance, so give it time to stabilize.

Battery Suggestions

  • Auto-brightness: Enable auto-brightness to reduce battery usage.
  • Auto-lock: Activate auto-lock to prevent the screen from staying on unnecessarily.
  • Reduce Brightness: Lower your screen brightness if it's set too high.
  • Background Location: Limit location access for apps to "While in Use" to conserve power.

Battery Usage Overview

  • Check Activity & Battery Usage by App: Go to Settings > Battery to see which apps are using the most battery. Adjust settings for apps consuming excess power.

Other Battery Saving Tips

  • Use Wi-Fi: When possible, connect to Wi-Fi, as it consumes less battery than cellular data.
  • 5G Auto (iPhone 12 & later): Enable Smart Data mode to automatically switch between 5G and LTE to save power.
  • Low Power Mode: Activate this mode to reduce power consumption when the battery is low.

Battery Health

  • Check Battery Health: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health to see your battery’s condition. If "Service" appears, consider replacing the battery.

I’ve been an iPhone user since the very first iPhone launched in 2007. I shoot video and stills. Your expectations that a battery lasts all day while shooting video and stills is unrealistic. None of my recent iPhones (iPhone 11 Pro, 12 PM, 13 PM, 14 PM, 15 PM and 16 PM) can last all day shooting stills and video. Watch any YouTube videos from serious producers and you see they all use external battery backs to shoot what you want. Time to change your expectations. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but that’s the reality of the any smart phone today.

Mine is worse. I disconnect at 6 AM 90% max charge to save the battery. By Noon I’m below 60% with occasional. By the time I get home, it’s almost dead. One of the updates messed everything up. Apple, help!

As others have done, post your last 24 hours of battery usage. If you have the same apps identified consuming your battery as in the other posts here, then your problem has been found and the solution is very easy to test.

Your screenshots are useless for the discussion at hand. First, they are huge, try resizing your images so that the information doesn’t require endless scrolling. I understand it’s not your fault, it’s a website forum issue. Sorry. But depending on the device the information can readily be consumed, so to speak.

More importantly, your issue is centered around battery consumption, correct? Then why I’m I looking at activity by app and not battery consumption by app? I can easily have an app on screen that consumes very little battery. Let’s see the real culprits of the issue at hand.

I continue to see suggestions that the answer to the battery charge life problem can be found by examining the usage pattern of each app. For the most part, this doesn't make sense. The only information conveyed by these numbers is the relative use of each app as compared with total app usage. In my case, for example, the relative use of each app is virtually identical on my iPhone 14 -- for which there are no battery life problems -- and my iPhone 16 Pro, which has very short battery life. To be somewhat useful, this list of relative uses would also need to present an important piece of information that is omitted from the usage report: total iOS battery use in relation to app usage. If we had that information, we could compare iOS power consumption by model as a community. In doing so, we might identify useful solutions. Based on a comparison between my two iPhones (14 & 16), it seems likely that my iPhone 16 iOS is using a disproportionally large amount of battery power.

It is strange. Today I unplugged my 16 Pro from charger at 8:00 AM.

Exactly 8h later i used 35% of the battery (65% is remaining) and I have 3h screen time and 45m idle. I could assume that using the phone with the same pattern I would have 6h screen time and 30% battery remaining which gives me up to 8h screen time with 80% battery usage. And 47% of time I spent on TikTok. Different apps use different amount of battery. Yesterday 35 min phone call with loud speaker, using the screen all time and sharing it with Apple advisor consumed ~8-11% of the battery. Now I know that 1h spent on TikTok consumes like 7-10% of the battery.

I am becoming to tired investigating that and I don't see a pattern yet. Regardless, apple after the call i had with them yesterday claims that it is pretty normal and 8h of screen time should be consider as excellent (maybe not in these words but I get the point).

I’m not a developer, but it seems that the Home Screen turns on a lot with the 16 pro when I don’t want it on…and when I look at my battery usage, that has used a lot of the battery. Can this not be fixed somehow?

Your screen should only be turning on when it receives a Notification. If you have any Social Media apps, then you know that they use the Notification process extensively and each one will run the app in the background to process the Notification. The background process from a Social Media app is much more draining on your battery then a simple notification from Messages when you receive a text. This will consume more battery power even when not using your phone.
