iPhone 16 Pro Battery Draining Quickly

Iphone 16 pro battery seems so poor. I unplugged my phone at 9:15 am and by 4pm it had only 32% with 3hrs of screen time. I did my 0.5gb update hoping it will extend baterry life and upgrade functionality of my iPhone.

How is it possible? Anyone experiencing bad battery life as well?

Here are a few insights from Apple Support’s official iPhone Battery Drain help page

Did you recently update your iPhone to a new version of iOS?

  • If you've recently updated your iPhone, battery life might drain faster than usual for a few days. Background tasks like indexing and syncing can temporarily affect performance, so give it time to stabilize.

Battery Suggestions

  • Auto-brightness: Enable auto-brightness to reduce battery usage.
  • Auto-lock: Activate auto-lock to prevent the screen from staying on unnecessarily.
  • Reduce Brightness: Lower your screen brightness if it's set too high.
  • Background Location: Limit location access for apps to "While in Use" to conserve power.

Battery Usage Overview

  • Check Activity & Battery Usage by App: Go to Settings > Battery to see which apps are using the most battery. Adjust settings for apps consuming excess power.

Other Battery Saving Tips

  • Use Wi-Fi: When possible, connect to Wi-Fi, as it consumes less battery than cellular data.
  • 5G Auto (iPhone 12 & later): Enable Smart Data mode to automatically switch between 5G and LTE to save power.
  • Low Power Mode: Activate this mode to reduce power consumption when the battery is low.

Battery Health

  • Check Battery Health: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health to see your battery’s condition. If "Service" appears, consider replacing the battery.

The battery on my two week old Iphone 16 pro is really disappointing. It hardly carries me through the day. And I am not a big user mobile phone. I really want to return it. It is worst than my five year old iPhone XS. Has anyone returned the phone back?

Your post shows 18 hours before needing a charge and that is even with Facebook installed where Meta has not yet provided an update to prevent the background processes from consuming the users battery. The background processes are not reflected in Screen Time.

Charge your phone every night using the Optimized Charge setting to learn the charging habits and you are good to go. As for returning your phone, you will want to make that decision soon. Apple did offer extended return times for online purchases over the holidays, but normally you have 14 days. If purchased from another retailer they may have a different return policy.

I have my iPhone 15 Pro.

Starting my day at 7 AM at 95%, only use the phone for whatsapp, instagram, video call for 30 minutes, no game at all and left only 15% at 3 PM.

I calculate the total screen on time is around 270 minutes.

Thought the Pro could stay at least for 1 day, but seems it won't.

So I just assume this is a common problem with iPhone Pro series, where it has to sacrifice the battery longevity for the sake of slightly better processor than the base model. Coz i heard the base model even last longer than the pro, CMIIW

I just upgraded from the iPhone 15 pro max to the iPhone 16 pro and I have to recharge my phone 4-5 times a day. I have to use my phone for work all day long and it constantly drops from a full charge to 20% in 3 hours. I have done all the recommended setting changes to save battery life and only have limited push notifications yet it still dies multiple times a day. If I would have known the battery life was so poor prior to upgrading I would have never upgraded. I had the same settings and same amount of usage on my 15 and hardly ever had to charge it until the end of my day around 9pm and my day starts at 6am. I want my old phone back

I am experiencing this issue with the latest non-beta iOS 18 and the newest public betas of iOS 18.5. I know brightness impacts it but to use it outdoors with sunlight, I know it has to be maxed both my iPhone 16 Pro and M1 Macbook Pro. However, this drain also happens with the latest updates and just doing simple tasks like browse the web or watch a video or write an email. I know when I bought the phone my battery life active usage was 12-14 hours and now I am lucky if I get 4-6 hours.

Wiping my phone to factory does not fix anything as I need my data and if you restore the phone from data backup, the problem just comes back. I cannot just give up all my data and only use Apple based apps for ensuring accurate battery life. Everyone uses apps like WhatsApp, TikTok, iMessage, Signal, Snapchat, FB/Messenger/IG, etc. Do not waste your time at Apple Store till after you get speak with Apple Senior engineers to try and fix the issue and give you authorization to get a free replacement at Apple Store. Apple needs to make battery life based on max brightness settings, watching videos on TikTok, and in different environments and temperatures.

Does anyone else still have this issue? I wonder when Apple will fix it and based actually battery usage based on 3rd party app and external factors.

Did you see my screenshots of my battery usage? It’s mostly the phone app or TikTok scrolling. The phone app should not be burning excessive energy because obviously this is a cell phone and most of the time people make phone calls that’s what it was designed for correlating to iOS bugs. TikTok, I know has bugs but their website version absolutely is garbage and doesn’t work well at all and a lot of the features require you to use the app so you pretty much don’t have a choice except to use the app. Same thing goes with Facebook, but you can see Facebook and Instagram and WhatsApp are not using very much usage at all. Apple should be basing its battery usage on extensive test testing with social media apps because that’s what’s most realistic. No one just uses Apple-only apps. Most people use third-party apps. This issue has occurred with all my iPhones I’ve ever owned. It happens within about 6-8 months of using the phone in which then I have to get it replaced by Apple because the problem never gets fixed until the next release comes out. However, I’m also testing a Motorola G power 5G phone with android 15. It drains a lot of battery too like my iPhone does. It only lasts a little bit longer because of the larger battery. I don’t use the Facebook app also very much unless I get a notification, but the notification is some BS algorithm issue which never gets fixed by Facebook no matter how many times I report that I’m not interested in the notifications and I turn them off.

I'm not adding much to what has already been said but I will go through the list.

  • My battery shows 100% health but the run time between charges is much less than that of my iPhone 11 or 14 or my wife's 13 Pro Max.
  • Even though I don't use my phone much, it is not unusual to have to charge twice to get through the day. It is definitely necessary to charge twice if I try to implement the 80% charge limit to prolong battery health.
  • Occasionally, perhaps once every 2-3 weeks, I go to bed in sleep mode, low power usage (I always use that), and a 55% charge and wake up to a dead phone that shows 1% charge.
  • I have had my iPhone 16 Pro for six months and it has been several weeks since the last OS update. I mention this in anticipation of guidance that it is just my new phone updating indexes.
  • I do not have any social media apps on my phone.
  • I have implemented all of the "11 proven steps" to increase battery life and have even gone beyond some of them in terms of shutting all background activities off and refreshing email only when I click on an inbox.
  • As a result of hours of fiddling with hard resets and functional settings, I have significantly increased battery life. I can generally get through the day on a single charge.
  • However, in shutting virtually every smart device off to attain this minimal battery life, I now have an expensive phone that doesn't do much more than my 2006 Blackberry.

I am very dissatisfied with this phone. It is upsetting every time I have to work around its power usage flaws. I would gladly go back to my iPhone 14 (which I retained) if Apple would let me do so. I would also feel a little better about the problem if Apple acknowledged it and was transparent in reporting progress on a fix.

hi I purchased my iphone 16 pro Oct 15th (literally 5 days ago!)and same issue with extreme battery draining like the others! I will remove my Whatsapp as "suggested" aformentioned and see if that makes a difference. But so many of us on here are having this issue Apple really should find resolve in this issue, Especially for the amount of money we consumers are paying.
