iPhone 16 Pro Battery Draining Quickly

Iphone 16 pro battery seems so poor. I unplugged my phone at 9:15 am and by 4pm it had only 32% with 3hrs of screen time. I did my 0.5gb update hoping it will extend baterry life and upgrade functionality of my iPhone.

How is it possible? Anyone experiencing bad battery life as well?

Here are a few insights from Apple Support’s official iPhone Battery Drain help page

Did you recently update your iPhone to a new version of iOS?

  • If you've recently updated your iPhone, battery life might drain faster than usual for a few days. Background tasks like indexing and syncing can temporarily affect performance, so give it time to stabilize.

Battery Suggestions

  • Auto-brightness: Enable auto-brightness to reduce battery usage.
  • Auto-lock: Activate auto-lock to prevent the screen from staying on unnecessarily.
  • Reduce Brightness: Lower your screen brightness if it's set too high.
  • Background Location: Limit location access for apps to "While in Use" to conserve power.

Battery Usage Overview

  • Check Activity & Battery Usage by App: Go to Settings > Battery to see which apps are using the most battery. Adjust settings for apps consuming excess power.

Other Battery Saving Tips

  • Use Wi-Fi: When possible, connect to Wi-Fi, as it consumes less battery than cellular data.
  • 5G Auto (iPhone 12 & later): Enable Smart Data mode to automatically switch between 5G and LTE to save power.
  • Low Power Mode: Activate this mode to reduce power consumption when the battery is low.

Battery Health

  • Check Battery Health: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health to see your battery’s condition. If "Service" appears, consider replacing the battery.

Hi, did your battery life improve in the meantime? I just got my iPhone 16 pro 4 days ago and it has been driving me insane ever since. I get a battery drain of 1% every 5 minutes of on screen time. Just by simply browsing on the web. I am not sure how long it should last or if this is normal, but this means that i won’t have too much on screen time at this rate. I am seriously thinking if i should simply return the phone. I am coming from iph 11 which had the battery at 70% and it had a similar performance with iphone 16 pro.

I already have a bunch of functions disabled, i don’t have background app refresh on, i don’t have always on display, i am using wifi, i keep my luminosity pretty low, location is set to while using… and that’s the stats that i got with all these things set. I didn’t see anything improving up until now… so i have no idea if its the phone, if i had too much expectations from it (battery not too drain that fast).

It has been 3 days now since I got my iPhone 16 pro and I am blown away by the poor battery life. I believe all the updates and configuring as apple support stated is complete. The phone is no longer running hot. But the battery life is unacceptable. Thinking of returning it. Has this improved for anyone? If yes what did you do ?

Once the problem goes away, we don't see many follow ups as people no longer need the support they are looking for, but there have been some such as this one provided Petalfrog82. It would appear at that rate they are getting the full day of battery usage that would be expected:

The day after I got it, my battery drained to 70% after 4 hours. Five days later I am down to 45% after 10 hours, so I do think it has been improving over time.

I recently got my iPhone 16 Pro on October 27th, and I’m blown away by its battery life. I didn’t charge it for a whole day after I got it, and the battery was still at around 70%. Even the next day, after using WhatsApp, YouTube, Netflix, and other apps, it was still at 60%. Now, it’s been 9 days, and I’ve been using it like crazy. I go to bed each night and plug it in, limiting it to 90% charge. When I wake up in the morning, I can still use it until the end of the night, and I usually have between 45-65% battery left. If I don’t play any games, I’m confident that it will last the whole day with 65% battery.

When I bought my phone a little more than 2 weeks ago, I had the same problem. I was very dissatisfied. I decided to bring in back to Apple to exchange for another 16pro. I did not want the Max. After a long talk with the rep. I decided to go home and over the weekend perform my usage test with a fully charged battery. I had a few more days left to return it. First I have my phone set-up the way I want. Yes! I followed some suggestions since they made sense. On Saturday Nov 2nd. I woke up with a full charge. I used my phone the way I normally do this included all social media, text taken pictures. At midnight I had 17% battery left. I was very satisfied with that. I have decided to keep it and I have a MagSafe battery charger to take with me just in case. I feel with all the things added to the 16pro including AI. The battery life is what’s to be expected. Of course I would love a much longer battery life but the reality is it’s a cell phone and you can’t compare it to older phones they had far less the capacity then the 16 pro. Do what is right for you. Good luck.

I don’t think for a month old phone an engineer is required. It needs replacing.

I don’t think calling Apple support will help. They are as puzzled as this forum. Genius Bar will tell you that your battery is fine. They don’t and can’t fix your problem as serious as this.Probably Apple can’t fix it either- otherwise patch or update would have been there.

I feel the same way. Just got this phone and I’m not pleased. I charged it less than 24 hours ago and it’s down to 24,%. iPhone 13 had better battery life

That is actually very good and I'm sure others would be very pleased with that as well. The goal is to have all day battery life and you should charge your phone every night while using the Optimized Charging option.

First day with my brand new 16 Pro; left home with 100% battery and thankfully carried my 13 Pro (with its original battery, health 85%). I listened to music on spotify on airpods and browsed socials on 13 Pro while 16 Pro stayed in pocket, untouched. Only used it for hotspot. 2 hours later, my 13 Pro that had been used throughout the 2 hours had battery level 92% while the 16 Pro dropped to 79% whilst only being used for hotspot. I’m just so irritated!

How does factory resetting your MacBook fix your battery issue with your iPhone? Or did I misread this?

It is not Factory Resetting the MacBook, it is using the MacBook to Factory Reset the iPhone. Restoring iOS from a computer is a different process than resetting through Settings on the iPhone. The computer can perform a Clean Install of iOS on the device.

Apple makes it very clear where the problem is in that graph. With less the 4 hours of Screen Time using the apps, you can see exactly what has consumed your battery not only while using the app, but in the background when it is closed. I don't know how that can be more clear.

You spent $1200 on a phone to install apps that collect your personal information to sell to advertisers and are making far more than that by using you as their product. That is the choice you made. If you don't like it, contact the developer of those apps and see if they care.
