iPhone 16 Pro Battery Draining Quickly

Iphone 16 pro battery seems so poor. I unplugged my phone at 9:15 am and by 4pm it had only 32% with 3hrs of screen time. I did my 0.5gb update hoping it will extend baterry life and upgrade functionality of my iPhone.

How is it possible? Anyone experiencing bad battery life as well?

Here are a few insights from Apple Support’s official iPhone Battery Drain help page

Did you recently update your iPhone to a new version of iOS?

  • If you've recently updated your iPhone, battery life might drain faster than usual for a few days. Background tasks like indexing and syncing can temporarily affect performance, so give it time to stabilize.

Battery Suggestions

  • Auto-brightness: Enable auto-brightness to reduce battery usage.
  • Auto-lock: Activate auto-lock to prevent the screen from staying on unnecessarily.
  • Reduce Brightness: Lower your screen brightness if it's set too high.
  • Background Location: Limit location access for apps to "While in Use" to conserve power.

Battery Usage Overview

  • Check Activity & Battery Usage by App: Go to Settings > Battery to see which apps are using the most battery. Adjust settings for apps consuming excess power.

Other Battery Saving Tips

  • Use Wi-Fi: When possible, connect to Wi-Fi, as it consumes less battery than cellular data.
  • 5G Auto (iPhone 12 & later): Enable Smart Data mode to automatically switch between 5G and LTE to save power.
  • Low Power Mode: Activate this mode to reduce power consumption when the battery is low.

Battery Health

  • Check Battery Health: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health to see your battery’s condition. If "Service" appears, consider replacing the battery.

Just so you realize it is not your device that is the problem, you can see the same reports here on an Android device in the Google support forums for the issue with Instagram consuming the battery.

Sorry, but I don't know what else it is going to take before the cause of the problem is realized and you take the appropriate measures to solve it. None of it has anything to do with your device and it is not Apple can fix it for you. I would further suggest you let those developers know how dissatisfied you are and with enough complaints you may see a faster resolution.

I have seen Taylor KR's post and I agree. I don't think Mac Jim is correct on this. There is no point in removing posts which doesn't align with apple sales. We have to accept that i phone 16 pro has issues. That needs rectifying. And just to update Mac JIm that not many people give positive feedback - I would concur with him. I bougth i phone 16 pro and has tried everything suggested and battery life is still poor. I have removed instagram and facebook. A limited use of whats app. The bottom line is - its a new phone and should be tested properly before selling it.

Hi, you’re not the only person that’s been a caregiver to loved ones with dementia/Alzheimers.

I understand the frustrations and exhaustion it causes. I understand your time is precious and these aren’t the kind of issues you want to spend your valuable time on. But unless you tackle the challenge the issue will only gradually fix itself over time.

I’ve had my iPhone 16 Pro for three weeks now, it gets about the same battery life as my iPhone 14 Plus and the battery was at 85%, this is ridiculous. Three hours of use and I’m down to 50%, I have backaround app refresh turned off on almost everything, I have mail fetch hourly, I can’t think of anything else to do. I don’t know what to do.

I had the 16 basic first, but it was horrible also so I got this one for improved battery life, and hoping it would connect to 5G quicker than the other one which it does much slower than prior phones.

oh, and for three weeks, I’ve been plugging it in at 9 PM to charge unplugging it at 6 AM every night and it still won’t do optimized battery charging.

I posted today and it’s not at the end of this topic, that makes no sense. I can’t find it. Someone responded. I can’t respond to them. I can’t find them, I’m getting very poor battery life. Top three apps used podcast, chrome then home and Lock Screen.

I also mentioned it that after three weeks of plugging it in at 9 PM and unplugging it at 6 AM charging it still won’t do optimize battery charging

My iPhone 16 Pro just went down from 56 to 28 with 55 minutes of use over two hours. This is about four hours for a full charge when you think of it in the points the percentage this is a quarter of the percentage.

I’ve had iPhone since the iPhone 5 I think and I’ve had one every couple years never anything near as bad as this. I replaced my 14+ with this because the battery on that was disappointing me, I’m aware that has a bigger battery, but still it’s terrible on this one.

Podcasts, Amazon and home lock screen with the top three apps usage during that time. Always on is off.

off-topic I can’t figure out how to make sentences start with a capital letter when I’m dictating, even with the auto capitalization turned on. when I’m dictating, I can see the first word is capitalized and I stop the microphone it uncapitalized.

Is there a way to use dictation on your phone other than tapping the microphone in the bottom right corner, other than on web browser where it will be up in the address search bar.

Somewhere back in the beginning Mac, I mentioned that I had done a couple of factory resets to no avail. A software/hardware problem is conceivable if, for example, the alpha and beta testing was not conducted on all hardware versions. I used to see this a lot in early versions of Windows.

Ok, just wasn't sure if you had reset without restoring from a backup to compare. If you are still not getting all day battery life without crippling your phone, then it would confirm your suspicions.
