Apple Watch 7 counting too many stairs

My series 7 is counting flights of stairs when I’m not climbing any. At least 9 flights a day and sometimes 40 or more. If I un-pair and re-pair with my phone will I lose my data? Like my activity logs, etc?

No; all your data will be retained. Just be sure to do it properly: Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support

  • Unpairing the Watch is the action that backs up its data to its paired iPhone.

Then, pair it again: Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support. Don't set it up as a new Watch. Restore it from the backup created by un-pairing it.

It's also a good idea to make sure the respective devices are updated before proceeding.

In an abundance of caution you might also want to back up the iPhone before doing anything: Back up iPhone - Apple Support
