Macbook external DVD Drive not working

I have an older MacBook. Not sure exactly what year as model # has rubbed off but one of the plastic all white ones from mid 2000s. Running Mac OSX 10.6.8. The MacBook has a slew of problems, I don’t remember the user password, something’s screwed up with the WiFi where it refuses to connect, I don’t have admin access to the laptop etc. I want to insert my 10.6.3 snow leopard disk to wipe & reset it but the DVD drive is broken. I tried to connect an official apple super drive A1379 but it doesn’t work with this laptop at all. I don’t think it’s even sending power to the drive. Is this something I need to fix in settings or should I try and find a older or 3rd party drive

Earlier Mac models

Hi, Dhs-etc… yup, you’re correct, the Apple SuperDrive works with all Mac’s from 2008 or later without a built in optical drive… and yes, even though the internal dvd drive is broken… it still qualifies ;(.. so get a 2nd /3rd party dvd drive, might as well get one that can burn dvd’s too… all you have to look for is a usb-A connection and the words “works with Mac no problem” … around $30 US ( maybe a bit less) will get you going…
