Can I set up my new iPhone without transferring photos?

when setting up a new phone, i do not want to have all my photos and apps transferred to it. I know i can push the do not transfer button but will that stop syncing the new phone from my other apple products such as my macbook air or my ipad? I am logged into the same apple ID on these devices, meaning i have all the same photos on all devices. will I be able to connect to the devices despite not wanting the pictures/notes from them to transfer over to my new phone? Will my passwords and files still be able to cross over to my new phone or no? i’m sorry if this is a but confusing i just don’t want my new phone to have all the data and storage from my current phone taking up all the space. thank you in advance.

Hi yari1313,

You're in the right place.

When setting up a new iPhone, when you reach the 'Transfer Your Apps & Data Screen' during the setup process, I would recommend selecting 'Don't Transfer Anything'. This means:

  1. No content will be transferred to your device
  2. You will be prompted to sign in with your Apple ID which will enable you to sync content between your other Apple devices

To choose which apps and content (eg. Contacts, Notes) you'd like to sync with your new phone:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. [your name]
  3. iCloud
  4. Select 'See All' near the 'Saved to iCloud' section
  5. Turn on any apps you wish to sync with your new iPhone. When an app is set to off within the menu, it means that its content will not be shared with your other devices (eg. if Photos is set to 'Off', photos taken on your iPhone will not be pushed to your other devices or backed up to iCloud, and your iPhone will not receive photos from your other devices

I do hope this answers your question, do let me know how you go setting up your new iPhone.

Best,

Jas
