iPhone camera app keeps crashing after iOS 18 Update

iPhone 13 Mini running newly released iOS 18. Now camera suddenly crashing upon opening and/or lagging. Can't use camera functionality at all really. Reboot fixes it but only for one picture. Clearly not a hardware issue as this is being reported in multiple forums / across device models. Camera seems to be trying to grab addresses / info / QR codes at times and that seems a problem? Is there an anticipated bug fix? Other workarounds? I don't really want to have to do a reset (I lose data every time I do.) This iOS shouldn't have been released to public in this state.

I'm also very frustrated with all the issues I'm having with my iPhone 13 since the iOS 18 update. My camera crashes, screen keeps freezing, lagging when I type. Tried rebooting. I have contacted Apple, but told to take it to a store. That's a 2 hour drive there and back for me. My phone was fine until the update. Now it's practically useless. 😠

Dear Apple Support,

I'm writing to report an issue with my iPhone 13 Pro Max's camera functionality after upgrading to iOS 18. Prior to the update, all cameras were working perfectly. However, immediately after the upgrade, I started experiencing camera issues. Specifically, I'm only able to use the 1x to 3x zoom range, while the other cameras appear to be non-functional.

Before the update, I was able to use the full range of zoom settings, from 0.5x to 6x or 8x (I apologize for not recalling the exact maximum setting). Given that this issue is being reported by multiple users across different device models, including on Reddit (e.g., "iPhone 13 PM Cameras not working after iOS 18 update : r/iphone), I believe this is a software-related problem rather than a hardware issue.

I would appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter. I have already upgraded to iOS 18.1, but unfortunately, the issue persists. Please let me know the next steps to troubleshoot or resolve this issue.

I have the same issue with my iPhone 12 Pro. This happens with default camera settings and no zoom. It is random and it can happen multiple times. For example, I tried taking a picture 3 times in a row in normal daylight, without success. They were all blank. Then I changed position and the camera worked without any issues, every time.

As a side note, I had my battery replaced at Apple Store prior os upgrade and the phone passed all hardware tests.

Is there a way to reset the camera?

Replying to let you know I didn't have keyboard OR camera problems with 17.7 BUT. . . I have BOTH with 18. I'm also getting ghost typing, but only within one specific app so far (a puzzle app.). Probably not the answer you were hoping for. One word of warning: they've made it now that if you upgrade to 18, you can't downgrade. Not ideal, by any means! Wish I had better advice for you!

This keeps happening to my iPhone 16 pro. I literally got this phone because my iPhone 13 stopped working completely after iOS 17.6.something. What a waste of money and what a sad monopoly we’re in. Go back to the Apple Store for a replacement under Apple care and they’ll tell you they gotta charge you for an attempted repair before seeing if they HAVE to give the overpaying customer a new phone.
