iPhone 16 pro Video Sound Recording Issues

Well, the video works now, I think? Reason being that I shot videos with it and the audio appears okay.

HOWEVER, the camera would fail to engage randomly as follows:

Camera app would open for 1 second or so …

The screen would then go black for 1 second or less …

The phone would then switch to the home screen automatically.

I would have to restart the phone for this problem to go away.

I contact Apple support as it is a new phone - iPhone 16 Pro Max - and I would hope everyone here who still have Apple Care on their phones to contact Apple Support for a real solution. Apple has NOT offered me a solution as I could not repeat the above problem while talking to them because the problem is random and I could not invoke the issues above myself.

Since the iPhone 3G, I could not recall an iPhone I owned which have the same degree of problems.

I record videos on my phone for a podcast and the videos has no sound. Some of the videos don’t allow me to skip to certain parts because it would not load and I can’t edit them either. I try to trim them and it won’t work. This is frustrating. Because I do a lot of video recording and those videos are basically ruined. Those were long videos.

I JUST discovered that my audio (sound) playback on video recordings in the camera is MUTED whenever I have the ringer set to MUTE as well.

I just un-MUTED my ringer switch [using the Action Button or in Settings > Sound & Haptics] and re-tested by taking another video recording to hear whether the MICS on the phone pick up sound. To my pleasant surprise, after un-MUTING the ringer….the video cam now records sound along with the video in the camera app.

my Apple device is an iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Seems quite odd that Apple would mute video sound whenever the Ringer is muted, but evidently that is the way it is….at least for now until Apple chooses to modify this via an OTA software update.

This makes sense as a discovery @StuNM. I remember having my phone in silence when I recorded my baby's ultrasound. It doesn't make sense that Apple did this on purpose, though, as many people have their phones permanently muted, and I'm sure they would not expect their videos come with no sound.

I have the exact same issue when making a receiving phone calls. I can hear the other person just fine But they are constantly complaining that my is breaking up or I completely disappear. But the connection remains fine. I also noticed that when using voice to text, it will sometimes stop as well which makes me think it must be the microphone on my brand new iPhone 16, very frustrating.

It doesn't work change spatial audio to stereo.

I got the iPhone 16 Pro Max and like so many on here the audio problem with recording video is frustrating beyond measure. I’ve searched three YouTube videos showing a fix that doesn’t work either. What’s happening is, when I record a video, whether the audio is set on that new crappy, spatial, audio, stereo, or mono, the first part of the audio is thin and garbled for a few seconds, and then it gets to being correct. Can someone please show me how to fix this?

I recorded my kids singing in church with my iPhone 16Pro like I have with my previous iPhones but the 16 Pro videos sound muffled and sound goes in and out. It’s awful and annoying! I turned off special audio and will try again next Sunday. Is it worth replacing the phone with a new one at Apple or is this a software issue? I’m on 18.1.1.

I'll leave here YouTube example of my ruined concert shot. There is 1 second of decent sound, when the phone is facing scene with it's screen. While it's pointed towards scene with backface cameras, sound is muffled.

The joke here is that my Iphone passed tests at authorized service center and got refused repairs.

I have the same issue. I have been an iPhone user since the XR and I usually record my band performance with it. The iPhone is known to have great recording video audio and it does not produce distorted audio on videos but today I recorded two services of our worship team and it has the same problem. The audio is all distorted and fades

Got the same problem! I am a longtime iPhone user and never had this problems. I use my phone to record band performance and this time I recorded two services and the sound I got was distorted. This iphone16 is just 5 days old

I am finding noise distortion on my videos when I post them to social. So much echo. Wonder if an update is coming that will fix it.

I got the 16 pro max and I have a echo in the audio when I upload to instagram or to a video editing app. Is there a fix to this?!!

I purchased iPhone 16pro, it doesn’t record voice while filming in all modes ( normal, cinematic…) , totally mute!

is it software or hardware issue?
