Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server...,

I realise this question has been asked before but can't find an answer to my particular issue...,

I'm running a very old system for recording and mastering music which up until recently has been working well.

Powermac G5 Dual 2.3

MacOS 10.5.8

Cubase 5

HALion 3

UAD-1e cards

I am now unable to connect to a number of websites (Universal Audio, Apple, Cubase for example) via either safari or firefox and get the error Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server...,

I've reset the browsers and cleaned out the cache, history, cookies. I've checked my network proxies and DNS and cannot find anything amiss. All my keychain certificates are in date and trusted.

Is it all just very out of date? The system hadn't had a fresh reinstall / rebuild in two or three years but I am loath to do this if I can't get an connection and relevant updates now.

Advice appreciated.

The browsers compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard have difficulties with modern (secure, https) web pages. You may have noticed that the few remaining plain http sites still work. Unfortunately, there is not much that can be done about this, except using a more modern Mac (or possibly a PC) for downloads and then transfer files to the old Power Mac G5.
