I got my old MBP 17” from the closet to see if it works. Upon connecting to my network I got the message “Safari can’t open the page “___________” because Safari can’t establish a secure connection to the server “__________”.
I reinstalled OS version 10.5.8 but got the same message, no matter what website I try to go to.
Is there a fix for this?
I already emptied the cache and reset Safari.
Almost no websites will load with that operating system (Leopard).
You did not indicate which 17" MBP model you have, but whichever of the dozen or so such models it might be the Mac is almost certainly too old to be updated to a newer operating system because it lacks the hardware required for the secure communication protocols most websites now require:

Pending your answer to the above open question the Mac may be perfectly operational but the passage of time has rendered it functionally obsolete.

As discouraging as that is to hear, I do thank you for your quick response.
That Mac was introduced eighteen years ago. It probably still works as well as ever, but the world has changed since then.
Macs just keep going.
