What happened to "recents" in photos in ios 18?

What happened to "recents" (previously "camera roll") in ios18? I see an album separating out downloaded pics which is nice and they are all in the library but no separate album for pictures I've recently taken. I don't use the cloud and I would use recents to see when I needed to sync to my iMac. I can see them one at a time in the camera app but no count. I feel this is a big omission.

This may be what you are asking, not sure, but if you open photos, swipe down to get “Library” to show at top left of screen vs “Photos”.  That took me awhile to figure out lol.

Then select the arrows bottom left, option to sort by date in photo metadata or sort by recently added regardless of source.

Ensure under Filters that “all” is selected.

I feel your pain.

Excuse me…that is Photos iOS. It really is messed up there. I’ve got to dig around to find anything.

However, it is always a learning curve with some new things.

Although on mine, it does show the Library above "Featured Photos >”, with the recent photos at the bottom of the Library. ; and below that is “Recent Days”.

and they did put a category in there called “Recent Days” below that

I did find it still in the Mac version.

I have it in Photos Version 8.0 (560.0.110)

When you open photos you open into recent days. Check the customize link at the bottom of the "Home Screen" for details.

The problem I've got is that the "Recent Days" collection doesn't show recent days. The latest pics in Recent Days are May. I've taken pics in every month since then and can see them in the Library. If I go into the Library and click the Months filter at the bottom of the screen I get panels for Nov, Jul, Jun, May... etc. I've got pics taken in October and August but the filters seem to be ignoring those. I've confirmed that the pics are dated and Siri finds them if I search by date so it's not an index-build problem. Any one else seeing anything like this?

Apple never explains or justifies. The new app doesn't work for my workflow but, as others have pointed out, if you only use iCloud photos, don't synch folders from Mac and only use the iPhone camera then you'll probably like the new interface. I suspect it's a step on the road of AI integration and a nudge to use iCloud and Photos exclusively for image management and I don't expect Apple to go backwards on this. There are recent posts on alternative apps for IM so if you can't get on with Photos then you'd be better off finding something that meets your needs than getting annoyed with Apple.

Count on Apple to mess it up. I have never interacted with a company that moved so slowly, or takes away things that are good and makes them more complicated. REALLY disappointed to lose Recents! The page I use is so cluttered - it reminds me of a Samsung TV. I like simple interfaces!

Have you done any customization yet? There are a number of things you can hide.

Thanks for the suggestion. It just seems like now there is extra work to do to get it the way I want it. Sometimes I think that software designers think that when they make things “automatic”, it is easier for us. Maybe for some people it is. I like being able to have things be simple, without me having to do a bunch of extra steps.

Or, it makes it possible for those of use who never liked Photos to adjust it more to our liking.

If Apple gives no choices (their default), people complain about the lack of choices. If they give choices, people complain about things not being simple. There are always going to be people who like the way they've done things and ones who don't. The trick is to not take any of this too seriously.
